So, if they are going to distribute cement out of this closed plant, here are some questions. 1. Where will their cement come from. I don't think there are any plants close by that part of the country. 2. How will the cement be transferred in to keep their supply built up? The plant will no longer p...

They probably lose a little on every ton they sell. But hey, they will make it up in volume. :)

It was first published by a gentleman in South Carolina. At some point, he either retired or passed away. Pioneer Lines then took over publishing the magazine for a while. I am not sure how long that lasted.

Thanks for posting that info. My wife's grandfather worked there until the end of operations. I think he had 25 or 30 years in there.

It has been so long ago that I don't really remember which side of the airport we were on. I kind of think it was the west side. I remember a huge, old, 4 engine Constellation aircraft parked near that building. Someone said it was flown in there, then the owner disappeared or went bankrupt. I think...

When I worked in Buffalo in the early 70's, my engineering company rented a whole building out at the Buffalo airport. They called it the old airplane factory. We used all the big assembly bays for a replica of a small part of the Great Lakes. I remember the office section had huge offices with lots...

My friend's son, has crews headed to the site. Says they will be picking up cars, to look for bodies under them tonight, and probably into tomorrow morning. Looks bad.

The folks in Erie might be a little over optimistic about all this new work. Consider, Wabtec has the locomotive plant in Ft. Worth, Tx., where the cost to build a locomotive is much cheaper than it is to build in Erie. ( I don't want this to become a union/non-union topic). Let's see how this all p...

Google Maps shows no current rail connection. It does show some old unused trackage on the plant site.

Salt is also mined at several places in the U.S. and Canada. Massive caverns exist where mining has taken place. FYI, I have worked in every salt mine in the U.S, except for one. There will be large voids where salt has been solution mined, but the voids are full of water to help with long term stab...

I believe they were receiving cement from Dragon Cement up and n Maine. Dragon had a big fire last winter at their plant. This probably caused some delivery interruptions thT may not be resolved even now.

I wonder if this will affect Erie Coke also? Erie Coke is part of the same company that owns Tonawanda Coke.
