by Cactus Jack ¦  Tue Jan 03, 2023 10:24 am ¦  Forum: New York State Railfan ¦  Topic: Richfield Springs & Otsego Lake Railroad ¦  Replies: 1 ¦  Views: 409

Does anyone have any information on this paper railroad ?

Possibly an incorporation related to the proposed construction of the Utica Chenango & Susquehanna Valley from Richfield Springs to Oneonta.

Any info appreciated: Incorporation date, directors or other info.

The date on the 1985 photo is wrong. The scheme 3000 is wearing there was painted by Rome Locomotive in 1988.
Stripes were added on the pilot at that time by RLW painter Larry Snow.

The 3000 was the last one operating. It ran as late as late October 1987 but had a mismatched traction motor installed sometime prior to mid - October 1987. The unit would go into wheel slip and stall out. Come to find out later a 74:18 gear ratio motor was installed where an 81:22 motor should have...

NYSW 3006 arrived at Rome Locomotive in September 1988 with engine failure. I believe it had been out of service since sometime early in 1987. It sat at Rome for a long time, finally being taken into the shop with a work order and contract on 12-24-1989. It was out shopped 3-31-1990 with engine / al...

Actually track ended in Dunkirk, not Fredonia. Sometime in 1975 I believe, but I do not have an exact date. If you are travelling down the NYS Thruway east of the Dunkirk - Fredonia exit - about MP 463 area, you can see the remains of the embankment where the railroad bridge went over the Thruway - ...

Hard to say about a 1920's DL&W NKP merger. The Transportation Act of 1920 required the ICC to look into consolidations of railroads. The report didn't come out until something like 1929 but when it did, both the NKP and DL&W fell under the C&O umbrella. In fact NKP would actually fall i...

Yes there was a study done dated May 30, 1975 by Santa Fe.

It is a bit subjective and confusing but basically it came pretty close. It is reported that it was NKP President John Davin that approached DL&W President William White sometime in the late 1940’s. NKP and DL&W were natural partners as DL&W needed a western extension and NKP needed an e...

I can't seem to find any relevant mapping. The trestle is documented in Nestle's book on the SNY and predecessors.

I suspect it crossed Fulmer Creek.
