Re: Horn locations on C430 #3000

The date on the 1985 photo is wrong. The scheme 3000 is wearing there was painted by Rome Locomotive in 1988.
Stripes were added on the pilot at that time by RLW painter Larry Snow.

Re: NYS&W #3006 C430

The 3000 was the last one operating. It ran as late as late October 1987 but had a mismatched traction motor installed sometime prior to mid - October 1987. The unit would go into wheel slip and stall out. Come to find out later a 74:18 gear ratio motor was installed where an 81:22 motor should have...

Re: NYS&W #3006 C430

NYSW 3006 arrived at Rome Locomotive in September 1988 with engine failure. I believe it had been out of service since sometime early in 1987. It sat at Rome for a long time, finally being taken into the shop with a work order and contract on 12-24-1989. It was out shopped 3-31-1990 with engine / al...

Re: Erie RR from Dayton Jct. to Fredonia

Actually track ended in Dunkirk, not Fredonia. Sometime in 1975 I believe, but I do not have an exact date. If you are travelling down the NYS Thruway east of the Dunkirk - Fredonia exit - about MP 463 area, you can see the remains of the embankment where the railroad bridge went over the Thruway - ...

Re: DL&W Merger with the Nickel Plate Road

Hard to say about a 1920's DL&W NKP merger. The Transportation Act of 1920 required the ICC to look into consolidations of railroads. The report didn't come out until something like 1929 but when it did, both the NKP and DL&W fell under the C&O umbrella. In fact NKP would actually fall in with the C...

Re: DL&W Merger with the Nickel Plate Road

It is a bit subjective and confusing but basically it came pretty close. It is reported that it was NKP President John Davin that approached DL&W President William White sometime in the late 1940’s. NKP and DL&W were natural partners as DL&W needed a western extension and NKP needed an eastern outle...

Re: Where was this trestle on the SNY?

I can't seem to find any relevant mapping. The trestle is documented in Nestle's book on the SNY and predecessors.

I suspect it crossed Fulmer Creek.

Question - Last Engine consist Marion West 3-31-1976

It seems somewhere I saw the engine numbers in the consist of the last EL train that left Marion, OH on March 31, 1976 on Train IHB-97. Anyone got this information? It might have been in a copy of the ELHS "Diamond" but if so I just cannot locate it. It was either 3 or 4 E-8's. Be interesting to kno...

I might have gotten confused or gotten dyslexic about the number, just a guess of what was possible and out there.
