Two weeks ago, watched a northbound go through Canton. In the consist there were six or seven orange CSX gons, with short side racks, carrying new ties. I've noticed NIW that these new ties are spread all the way from Norwood to at least Potsdam. There may be other areas as well. Does anyone know wh...

BR&P...well, now you mention it, there is a Dunkin Donuts / Kentucky Fried Chicken place a couple hundred yards up from where they were parked. Would they be parked for a meal break...is that allowed? Years ago, the local crew would tie up in Canton for lunch, but, they were usually meeting one ...

Today (this afternoon) and once more in the past week, I have found a Northbound parked just clear of the private crossing near the Jeffords Steel facility in Potsdam, NY. Both trains had two units and 30 to 40 cars. Both trains did not appear to have a crew aboard? In both cases, the trains were go...

Caboose Insulation Question

I've searched, but, have found no answer. In the days of the wood sided caboose, were
these cars insulated in any way? I guess my question holds for the early days of the steel
cars as well. Any info. appreciated. Thanks.

Any new rumors regarding the Syracuse to Massena line?

To answer "Gadfly" - Thank you for your thoughts. I am not a "foamer", or, a "wannabe" as you mentioned. I am retired after 32 years in law enforcement. I have always been interested in trains, railroads, and such...I find them to be interesting....fascinating at times....

Leo, the blue light might be used to cycle the traffic lights at that absolutely screwed-up intersection. I have seen them used in other locations (as well as white strobe type lights) to cycle the lights to some type of pre-set configuration in the event of emergency traffic, namely, fire trucks an...

I have never had a problem with my Classic Trains subscription. However, I have never done business with them via email.....it has always been by phone, or, letter....and the service has been excellent. Once, I even wrote them a letter asking for the titles of two articles / stories that had appeare...

I have always enjoyed my copies of S. Kip Farrington's "Railroading From the Head End", and, "Railroading From the Rear End". They cover a myriad of railroads, and, highlight many operating practices, innovations, and equipment of these roads. Both can be easily found on various ...

I am not sure just where the trouble lies with Model Railroader, or, Trains Magazine. I was a long time subscriber to both, but, eventually dropped them both because of what I felt was a lack of content. When I would see the usual blurbs on the cover telling of the articles inside, then only to find...

"Cheap, Sleazy, Xpletive" (CSX...as a friend calls them) pulls this stunt every few years by putting this line up for sale. I don't really think they have ever been that enthused by owning it. They put money into only when they had to, or, when they thought there was going to be a boom in ...

Personally, I think the line still has potential. It just needs a railroad company that
wants to operate it, and, provide good service. That is not CSX.

Is this referring to "our" line from Syracuse to Montreal, or, just trackage / property in Canada?

Maybe posting in wrong place, but, here goes. Was in Massena yesterday and saw a northbound leaving the yard. Two units #s 907 & 911 (?). From my vantage point, I was looking at the fireman's side of both cabs. The second unit had a small (about the size of the old tractor trailer type cab clear...
