Never heard of that with the short train theory. Funny the Kankakee local can drop the gates just fine with 2 cars ;) But I digress. The gates timing is set by the FRA. If you are going to run x speed those gates have to be down by x time.

What everyone else said. Just relax and learn them for the location you need to! Dont go reading it on line and try to memorize that. It could be wrong and signals are one thing you can never be wrong on. When I worked for the IC&E we had to be able to write it out word for word. Thats a great w...

From what I have seen, yes you will stay busy and yes you should be working . All depends though on how many people are above you. If you get bumped, what yard you are at etc etc. I can tell you its a mad house at the intermodal yard at Englewood ( duck when you hear gunshots ) and Landers looks to ...

Just saw the post, how did it go? I think you nailed it with what you said here. Not afraid to do dirty work and odd hours. We have a few ladies on my little streak of rust that cant hack it. Sounds like you will be able to.

To the topic of passing a train in a station. Unless there is a high platform ( like the entire MED district or 35th and Gresham on the Rock) or intertrack fencing , you must not enter a station if another train is stopped there. Now we just re did 80th ave last year with a tunnel and intertrack fen...
