Where The Big 4 crossed the Canal in Dayton Ohio at one time was a Draw Bridge. I do not know the dates and the canal fell into disuse .Around April 1913 there was a flood and after it was determined that the canal made the flooding worse. Prominent citizens advocated and formed The Miami Conservanc...

Inexpencive locomotives,I would recomend Bachman or Atheran. You can still get DC powered Diesels around 50 $ more or less. You can find some deals from online dealers, but a good hobby shop will test the unit before you buy.The Atheran usually has more detail, but is more delicate and children are attr...

I use an MRC sound system that I have miked to an amplifier. It gives good range and is adjustible easlily. The only advantage I could see to locomotive sound decoders is true doppler effect. The small speakers that are used in the locomotives I have seen do not produce the low end rumble that makes th...

The two symbols in the upper left square look like runeic alaphabet Sig runes(acient norse viking)as in the nazi chant Sig Hiel.Sometimes used as a sign of victory.Could it be ment to denote Seaboard System ?

The rationalization of the lines in the area began after the C&O takeover of the B&O.Then the coal and clay mineing played out or became unprofitable. With these went the steel mills and brick making.I think there was trans-shipment of local coal to barges on the Ohio River was the impetus to...

I would try to drill a small hole in the middle of the peg. Then you could drive a small screw or super glue a push pin in the hole and use pliers to pull out the peg.

My guess is could these be the old telegraph call letters. Many commonly used place names used one or two letter codes. To save time not sending the whole word, and cost when using commerical systems. With a limited alaphabet the letter codes often were all ready taken so the code may have none of the f...
