If I remember correctly, some years ago Metro-North rebuilt all their crossovers to limited -speed (45mph) specifications.

I rode LIRR and the subways a few weeks ago. Everything seemed pretty much the same as always with most riders minding their own business; many looking at their Smart Phones. With all the criminal incidents now being caught on video, the news media play them up big, where prior to all the video came...

Travelled to GCM today for the first time in several months. Although there are still no stores or shops in the LIRR concourse, after a full year a little progress has been made. There are now a few food and snack stands including a coffee and bagel stand . So you can at least finally get a cup of c...

What does the affluence of the area around the station have anything to do with it? It's not like funds for its refurbishment are coming from the local property taxes. NJT has been busy completely rebuilding Elizabeth and Metropark. Additional work was being done at Rahway. There's only so many sta...

Ya' do have to wonder what the rationale is for originating a train at Island Park. Although there is precedent for putting in a rush-hour train at an intermediate stop. About fifty years ago, when the main-line was first electrified, there was a morning rush-hour train that began at Westbury. Thoug...

So they're saying an all battery powered locomotive is going to pull a 12-car MU train from Grand Central, up the steep tunnel grades into Harold ? Hard to believe but with today's battery powered equipment I guess it might be possible.

Re: SEPTA NPT card will be "SEPTA Key"?

Another reason for not having working Ticket Vending Machines at train stations is the loss of On-board surcharge revenue. It still amazes me how SEPTA can legally get away with charging the on-board surcharge penalty fare to passengers who were not provided with any way to buy a ticket at the stat...

I haven't used SEPTA. I tried once, but when attempting to determine how when I wound up going to Philadelphia on short notice before I arrived, I learned that I would not be able to purchase a fare card (per SEPTA's website) at 30th street and that there wasn't the ability to use my iPhone for a t...

There's no need to repost the same content verbatim a few weeks later. We all read it the first time around. There are plenty of systems that use a tap on-tap off approach, both in the US and other countries. The only other way to do this is to install turnstiles everywhere, which is expensive and ...

LOL And New Yorkers think the LIRR is so inept. They ain't seen nothin' compared this SEPTA stuff. Between the service described by the poster above and the key card being such a scandal. Unreal. :(

What's surprising to me is that there isn't more of a public uproar over this fiasco with the system being so NOT user friendly. If the public kicked up enough of a storm, couldn't they get the local and state politicians to force SEPTA to stop this nonsense and set the system up to be more reasonab...

What is an 1118 168/EUC ? That is the identification for the 11:18 AM 'C' train from 168th St to Euclid Av. It is also referred to as the 'interval' or 'call letters' depending on the communication. When used in radio communication the T/O or RCC would say "1118 Charlie 168 to Euclid". Th...

I'll be honest, this seems like a pretty obvious issue. How was this not recognized as a problem earlier? Did we need someone to pull the emergency brakes on 5 cars and then cause an accident for people to think about it? Good question...........Maybe it was recognized by operating people who may h...
