Re: Siemens Charger Locomotives

Do we know anything about whether or not these will be any quieter than the GE Genesis or the EMD F59PHI? They certainly look sleek, and given how much easier the transition has been on the NEC to ACS versus the HHP-8 and the Acela, I'm pretty optimistic about the Chargers. They certainly should be ...

Part of me feels like a combination of the alternatives would actually make more sense. 1. Make the first investment in new Express and regional trains that are capable of being 10-16 cars long, not including power cars if they decide not to go with EMU's. However, I would update regional trains fir...

To me, it would seem that the primary problem is a sense of necessity. North Station is currently only used for Commuter Rail and the Downeaster. Unless at least MBTA and then Amtrak were going to Electrify most, if not all, of its owned trackage, it would not make sense to connect North Station to ...

California is also in HUGE debt but it is still spending couple Billion, it may be bad timing right now, but it is certainly still possible. California also had a state wide referendum to go further into debt to finance $9 Billion to start building CHSR, Pennsylvania hasn't. California has been sel...

Rocketjet, I do not live in Wyoming. I live in Western Nebraska. We have one AMTRAK train. Wyoming has none. If you live in a densely populated area, then no, we do not live in the same world. In my world, concern about carbon footprints means worrying that your vehicle might leave an oil spot on y...

Bro, I dont think you get how electricity in the west works. Electricity is provided by government-run organizations where the electricity itself is priced based on prices that government organizations have agreed on. Electric prices are now 1/50th of what they were in 1920, railroads would be buyin...

That would certainly be good business as far as working with what they have, such an experiment of having a high speed rail line in the west could be interesting, I really hope the Phoenix to Vegas line is built, such a line should be heavily used by the sheer amount of air traffic that is currently...

Rocketjet, As I posted earlier, I do not know where you live. I live in an area that is dependent on coal for its electrical power (with the exception of a small hydro plant locally). I have lived here since 2003, and see no ill effects. The coal-fired plant burns 128 car loads of Wyoming coal per ...

Rocketjet, I don't know about Montana, but South Dakota has a similar law. The Milwaukee Road PCE main line across northern South Dakota is operated by the BN. There is another line across the southern part of South Dakota, Sioux Falls to Rapid City. This also has been "rail banked". Part...

There is no question that Nuclear Power has been poorly built and maintained in certain parts of the world, but it should not be a surprise that it was under the Soviet Union that we had our most significant incident. Judging American-owned and operated reactors based on the situation causing the Ch...

Well the timing will clearly be determined by money, but I wouldn't rule such investments out. There will almost certainly be an infrastructure binge in the next few years, its just a question of how much rail will be getting.

I still think you are underestimating the environmentalist lobby in this country that I believe has surpassed that of Coal (not yet Oil) in strength. I would highly recommend reading up on the debates and see where the best and the brightest minds in our country stand on these issues and not base op...

Because Delta has its largest Hub in ATL with 980 daily departures? The same could be said for NY and Newark Penn station patrons, which are not many (setting aside commuters) in relative terms compared with the hordes that are at LaGuardia and Newark airports. That is a really important observatio...

I don't think we can rule out additional coal plants at all. This is a political, not an environmental issue. As is nuclear plants. This is one of the issues that will be decided by the next presidential election. We have the coal, if we are allowed to use it. Les I would have to respectfully disag...
