Re: Longest possible fantasy subway routing.

Jamaica-179th Street to Norwood-205th Street via Coney Island. How? The route would run through Coney Island Terminal, which would act as a through stop. As to which specifc physical lines this route would use, I would go with 6th Avenue via Culver going down, and Sea Beach or West End coming up, t...

I meant the longest possible continuous routing with *one* train, not the longest possible ride.

Hence "fantasy".

Longest possible fantasy subway routing.

Must be feasible with current equipment and infrastructure.

I'm thinking Queens Boulevard line starting at 179th street Jamaica, 8th Avenue line in Manhattan to Fulton Street line Brooklyn and terminating at Far Rockaway.

Is that really the best?

Thank you.

Which way around did it go?

Thank you.

Too sadly true.
Any grade crossings on those freeways? No?

Why do people think cars and trains must be enemies?

Here's what to try telling NIMBYs; Would you rather that the railway be elevated and that you don't have to wait for a train before passing under the viaduct, or would you rather that it be at ground level and you wait for trains before you cross? Tell that to the "NIMBY" whose house gets...

All track alignments corrected, and scheduling was perfect. The Purple line train (that my Red line train previously had to wait to pass at Lawrence) did a perfect across the platform rendezvous at Wilson. South of Wilson, who is the express didn't matter much if you were already on board, so rendez...

Wilson station looking good

The east platform is now in service according to the new normal pattern.

The west platform was still using only one track this morning, but I suppose they will get it all hooked up correctly this week.

Kudos to the CTA on this one.

Might as well ask these questions here instead of starting another thread. Last time I looked (a few years ago) the 9th Avenue lower level at the other end of the removed portion still had tracks in it. 1) Ever used for anything any more? 2) Is it feasible with the remaining tracks to relay trains t...

Hyperloop would be very economical somewhere that already has plenty of natural vacuum.

For example that moon base we would have had by now if the Apollo program hadn't been cut.

Chicago's transit system has benefitted greatly from not having the NYC ideological polarization that transit and cars are somehow natural enemies.

For example, note all those post WWII highways built with transit in the median.

Very contrary to the "law of Moses".

Also, the CTA cars are much smaller than NY subway cars. More comparable to the PATH train cars.

I know from the CTA official site and Chicago-l.org what is supposed to happen from the point of view of the passenger, and I see at platform level (from aboard the train) that it is coming along quite nicely. There are some details not clear to me (bearing in mind that I have not looked at the work...

Lots of historical questions -- 4 tracks south of Armitage.

Historical questions based on observations of what is there now. Where the center tracks go into the subway, the elevated structure has space for four tracks around the ramp (not just the remnant south of it). So it wasn't just a case of the middle two being redirected downward. This implies that th...
