The Locomotive Booster Engine, Revisited

Rather than necropost on a thread that hasn't been touched in over a decade, I figured I'd start a new one. In the past, most of the information I was able to find on their application and performance was limited to indirect sources, such as the specification cards of various locomotives, which stat...

Allan - I have a question concerning the open gangway R211 cars: As we know one of the summonsable offenses enforced by the NYPD Transit Bureau is crossing between subway cars either in motion or stationary. Will Transit officers be informed that this new equipment is going to allow riders unimpede...

Likely because the design architecture of the SD70 P4 locomotives are B1-1B.

So from the talk that's been going around, it seems that these have been rebuilt as 4-motor locomotives with an B1-1B configuration, so presumably they will have 5 inverters, 4 for traction, 1 for HEP. I'd also guess they went with the newer Mitsubishi electronics. I'm wondering if the motors will s...

The Acela Is seem to be mostly hitting 150 at Princeton on the WB runs. EB trains are coming up a grade so most have only been hitting the 140s. It's certainly possible for EBs to hit 150, however. When the new cat is finished at Hamilton there should be no problem getting them up to speed. With CP...

I'm sure that quite a few members of this forum have seen some of the videos on youtube of 4014 during it's recent outing as I have but this one really stood out to me by showing the mechanical majesty of this machine in motion. Accelerating out of Walnut Ridge, AR Credit Photographer Fan Railer fo...

Apparently, they flipped the pan as they were going through MILL just past midnight; train will need repairs now.

Trainset 2 is running back up to Boston for more testing this week. Should return to Philly by the end of the week.

Attached are a few close-ups of the pantograph modifications.

Yeah, I'll update that someday if I get a look at a recent ETT. I think I made it using a 2012 copy.

Another night, another round of testing on the NJ Racetrack. Still lots of arcing, but they seem to be running successfully without any unwanted slowdowns.

Reliable AX-2 service will need at least 4 fully functional train sets. Amtrak will not want any thing to tarnish the roll out. Even then it would only operate a single train each way with an AX-2 at WASH and SSY. Also have an AX-1 on standby in PHL. 6 - AX-2s would allow a thru run to BOS with an ...
