I just spoke with a member of the MRRA (the Brunswick Navy Base redevelopment people) and he told me the reason why the ME proposed RR car refurbishment facility went nowhere. According to him "it wouldn't be cost-effective to bring a rail-spur onto the property". When I mentioned that the...

So I've been having a hard time finding the original NNEPRA grant application. Did they take it down? It used to be on recovery.gov... Anyway, the $3.3 Million difference was supposed to be picked up by the state in the original arrangement. But I can't find any reference to where that money was sup...

My friend was in the Navy and he said he couldnt believe the amount of money the military contractors would charge for what you could essentially get at NAPA for $2. They get away with that stuff because they can... Worried about Government spending? Maybe we should go after these guys instead of cu...

The original NNEPRA application was for $38 Million and the Feds gave them $35 million initially. $3.3 million just so happens to be the difference... I'm sure this money is just to make up for the shortfall. I'll have to take another look at the original NNEPRA application to see what wasn't includ...

Actually Cowford, the reason behind my "extended hiatus" is because I have joined the steering committee for MaST and I've been too busy doing real life things to spend my hours going tit-for-tat with you and MR.Mike... I thought everybody could use a good hippie joke now and then, but may...

I too am having trouble with the quotations so I'll just answer your queries as they come to mind... The "Bayside Trail"? that one kills me!!! A recent proposal from a report by the American Institute of Architects, Sustainable Design Assessment Team outlined the possibility of installing ...

Man, these guys have got to get better at advertising these events... There were two events concerning the proposed passenger service along the SLR corridor last night. Not to start any conspiracy theories here, but I might point out that Tony Donovan (the tight-lipped rep from Fishman Realty in the article) is also the head of the Maine Rail Transit Coalition... Did anybody else notice the whole spiel in the realty listing about "potential for a transit orien...

Jesus Christ, I stop checking the Mtn Div thread for one week and the market fundamentalists start patting each other on the back like they own the place! But hey, don't let me stop you guys. Thank you for that information wally! What do you think it would take to realize the goals outlined in the MEPFA Study http://www.mepfa.org/docs/heatnebiomassvision4-pager.pdf 25% of Maine's heating costs from biomass by 2025? What silvicultural practices would be used to achieve this goal? After I ...

It also didn't hurt that the Maine Eastern supplied the now-Governor Lepage with a "Lepage Express" early in the campaign. I can't help but to wonder if this had anything to do with his whole "passenger rail can work if coupled with tourism" musing.

Any and all trackwork upgrades and the existence of Amtrak itself will be very uncertain at best after the polls close this evening. IIRC, GTI had a reputation for not only abandoning lines, but also retaining functional stubs at either termination point, especially if those points were in a crowded developed area with no good alternatives for other ROWs into a city, for example. In this way, GTI tried to prevent any competitor ...

Also, does anyone know when and why the x miles of track were torn out? And were they removed along the entire stretch shown on the maps (i.e., from just east of Bridge St. in Westbrook to just west of Route 202 in South Windham? TIA for any info.
