Erie lackawanna at the time of the Conrail takeover had all 27 pin MU changed to AAR standard.EL RS2 RS3 Gp7 units had 6SL&6BL, that was not compatable with 24RL &26L,alough the 1270 to 1284 DL&W GP7's had 24RL air equipment. The C420 is an easier unit to work on. For example the primary and secondary fuel filters, oil filters and oil cooler are all located in the same area ,on the RS11 the oil filters and oil cooler are located in the fan compartment which is cramped.The hood is designed different on a 420 to allow addi...

The coaches are former UP built by Pullman, they have aluminum skin. The Alaska RR ran some of these several years ago.

On an S2 I beleve what you are calling the main frame is the side sill that runs the length of the unit.The second structural frame you refer to is the center sill.This section runs between the body bolsters. After the change in the erecting shop and the instalation of the 250 Morgan crane the triplexes could be lifted in Hornell for servicing.

EL EMD 567 power

When a 567 A or B engine was in need of re manufacturing it was shipped back to EMD to be done. When these engines were shipped back they were re assembled and installed into the next unit requiring that type of engine. It could be a GP7 F3 F7 ,wherever. Great hearing from you Doug. Dick Welles

The Erie Lackawanna had 567 BC conversions to their prime movers. But the conversions were done at EMD. They also had AC prime movers
