I don't have access to any employee time tables from the LV. However, In the January 1930 Official Guide, passenger service on the Easton & Northern branch is still listed, which puts it past the dates given by Richard1. I mentioned this in another thread about the E&N branch: http://www.rai...

I think that the station building was located on the mainline, where the branch joined the mainline at a wye. The station sign shows the "--- miles to New York" and "--- miles to Buffalo" on either end. That feature was only, to the best of my knowledge, displayed on mainline sta...

It's possible the most convenient routing would have taken the water level route (i.e., east side of the Hudson) and stopping at place like Beacon to finish the trip via taxi or bus or whatnot. I believe a ferry operated between Beacon and Newburgh at that time. I have an Oct. 1937 Official Guide......

A user on flickr posted an old pic showing the LV station: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rschreff/5250726622/in/photostream/ The 3 story mansard roofed building was the LV's station. There are couple more pics of the building in Ralph Heiss' The Lehigh Valley Railroad Across New Jersey . According to...

Below is a link to an aerial, part of a series of the Amoskeag Mills in Manchester. Can anyone confirm if the small trackside structure in the lower left hand side of the photograph was the "replacement" station for the former station that was demolished in 1960? http://lcweb2.loc.gov/pnp/...

Buffalo-Niagara Falls Maple Leaf locomotive question

Does anyone know what locomotive type was typically assigned to LV trains 107/108, the Buffalo-Niagara Falls connection for the Maple Leaf? I know that 107 left Buffalo to meet the west bound Maple Leaf (No. 7) at Depew. There, through sleepers and coaches were swapped from No. 7 to continue on to T...

I sometimes peruse Jalopnik as well. Mostly I'm on other Gawker media blogs. Here's the correct link:

Were any passenger facilities erected, such as a shelter, to serve passengers for the last 7 years of service. I know that "McGinnis" stations (masonry shacks really) were built in Concord and Lowell to replace those stations. In Nashua, a portion of the back of Union Station was left stan...

Valley Metro is projecting "late 2015/early 2016."
I'm optimistic that it will be open on time since the original 20 mile line opened on time.

My father worked for the Steel for 20 years at the Bethlehem plant. It seems that all of our heavy industry is disappearing in the Lehigh Valley, Allentown used to have a company called Lehigh Structural Steel, was that like a mini-Beth Steel? Because Beth Steel made structural steel. Now it's all ...

It roughly paralleled the Little Lehigh Creek out to 20th St. and Hamilton Blvd. There's a long thread at Railfan.net discussing the LV branches in Allentown . The very first post has a nice map that shows the LV Barber branch highlighted in magenta. There's a lot of good infor and pics in that thre...

Nothing has changed. The AEDC claims they want to restore it, but nobody cares, not RJ Corman or any potential customers. From Michael Molovinsky's blog: http://molovinskyonallentown.blogspot.com/2012/10/the-trains-of-allentown.html I'm with Mr. Molovinsky on this one. It's a waste of money that wil...

I do understand the merits of reusing the old station, and I am also a big proponent of downtown stations. That said, I am a little confused about the Plaza Hotel terminal. Google maps does not suggest that any station infrastructure remains (I certainly may have missed it). If they are going to ne...

The Craigslist ad did mention 6 acres of land. Frankly, the land is probably more valuable than the building, which has few practical uses as is.
