Re: NHSL Construction

Been a lurker for years, rarely post but this caught my eye. Sounds like a lot has changed on the NHSL in 25 years. Here's a shot from 1993 and work at Bryn Mawr during the rebuild of the Pocket Track. Funny thing was that there was still 1908 rail in place at that time. And yes, if you look closely...

Been keeping an eye on this topic, not a regular poster at all but I stumbled onto these images at nycsubway and thought it may be of interest. https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/showpix?nsta=14133" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Supposedly taken in April, 1974. Note that one is...

MNRR Roster

A casual follower of this forum for a number of years but never posted, just absorbed the banter and the information presented herein. My question is this: has there ever been a definitive roster of Metro North equipment compiled, with such items as exact build dates (not 1972-1976 or the like), rea...

After the LNE ceased operation on Halloween 1961, was the Catty branch abandoned or did the CNJ/LNERwy ever operate it? If so how far south into Caty was it operated and when was it abandoned? Was the tunnel trackage immediatly abandoned and filled in after the LNE died? There are lots of industria...

Not sure but I doubt it. Ironton went by Ironton Railroad, IRR, not IRY. Sometimes it was listed as IRN but that was toward the end, from what I recall.

Of course, there's always the oddball item out there....and remember anyone can etch a globe with a fine sandblaster and a stencil.

Good luck,

Bump Found this page via another search. Surprised of any interest. I know the guy with the pictures in Triumph of the Branch. He says he has more, including GG1's on the Chestnut Hill branch and some view of freight trains switching near East Lane. He says when he bought the pictures, it was at an ...

I know someone who worked at Bethlehem Steel for almost 40 years. His first 30 years there the Bethlehem plant was operating. He told me that they never got ore shipments on the Bethlehem branch. The Reading initially used the Perkiomen branch via Allentown. He mentioned something about some cutoff ...

City of Allentown purchased anything that could be legally sold and then re-subdivided the parcels as needed. Some of the property was retained by the City for the relocation of Sumner Avenue, which was to follow a somewhat different route under 7th Street.

So what you are saying is that once the cement mills were closed, there was no more use for the Ironton, CR didn't want to hold onto it because it needed to be profitable asap. So that's it. The end? I don't understand how holding on the to the lines would be costing CR money. They don't pay proper...

Reality is if you really needed to get to Egypt, you "could" cross the Lehigh on the old CNJ bridge into Coplay. However, that bridge was rated only for very light axle loadings so modern cement or coal hoppers probably wouldn't go across. Still, there is a rail access north of Darktown/Wa...

At the west end, the DL&W started at Bath Junction where it interchanged with the N&B. This would be east of Rt. 512, where Newburg Road crossed the tracks. Line ran south of and parallel to the L&NE until Dexter where it crossed over to the north side. There were several places where th...

Yard tracks still crossed Water Street in 1986. Last major reason C&F was still in was the coal used at the Saylor cement mill in Coplay. Once the coal either stopped or got re-routed over the ex-Lehigh Valley, no reason to keep the C&F in east of Mauch Chunk Rd. I forget when Saylor closed,...

[quote="carajul"]The line from Uhlers to Martin's Creek was abandoned and removed by the CNJ in the 70s I think. I can't figure out why they removed such a short section and thus severing the portland secondary making it a dead end route from A'town. You can still see a mile or so where th...
