Stag Hound, Probably true unfortunately. 0900's sheer efficiency in terms of crew and fuel makes it hard to compete. shadyjay, The dinner train does go slower because of the track. If it was for length, it could also hit up the track down to Saybrook. If it was run at the same speed as the steam, th...

NNR, What I heard was that the Dinner train has to run slow because of track conditions, and steam doesn't run well that slow, but the GE is really, really good at it (it's a switcher). It's nothing technical, it has a lot to do with the waiters and waitresses being able to serve food and drinks wit...

Why 90? They are spec'ed to 100, and there are sections where they could run that fast. ACSES has nothing to do with their top speed, they have to have it to run at all on the Shoreline. For now, we don't have double sided platforms, so there are deadheads, and the faster the deadheads can move, the...

...but the M8's are coming, so you can sleep better at night... Nice one haha. The issue of being grandfathered isn't a legitimate excuse for the railroad to have neglected putting the proper facilities on those trains like decades ago. The original designers shouldn't have needed the ADA (which di...

What trains are in Stamford that aren't EMUs that would need to be switched to empty their toilets? Aside from that, the priority should be keeping the Amtrak train moving, as it has passengers who have somewhere to go. The train then had to wait for the Amtrak switcher instead of potentially being ...

I thought that 97 was definitely going out of service before 3025 came online, the idea that 3025 has to have been in revenue service for a while before 40 goes out of service too? What I heard about the dinner train was that it was not pulled by steam because steam can't run slowly enough given the...

Wouldn't you want to get the train to NHV? I know they can't go past NHV since that's Amtrak and ACSES, but they could at least get it there. Do the railroads hate each other? Since they co-exist on the same physics railroad, shouldn't they try to help each other out a bit to make things run as smoo...

Does he mean places to cross over? OSB and New London have interlockings to cross over, that's where they would need to cross over.

I was asking a question and I acknowledged that they probably wouldn't want it. They have two diesel switchers. Granted, the economics of steam may be different in the future, although if it were, the price of diesel would likely be such that FL9s would be too expensive compared to the very efficien...

Otto, That was before the post about the condition of #2. I was asking Brendan since he's involved with the railroad and would know the answer to my question. You obviously didn't read my question, I was saying that #2 could run as the steam locomotive on revenue trains with a diesel helper. #2 woul...

Nice! Do they have to be kept up to the original 79mph commuter standards or the 25mph tourist train standards? I highly doubt Essex would want big diesels, but if they did, would CDOT be able to "give" them a pair since they are a for-profit entity even though they are the most deeply inv...

I'm not suggesting it would make any sense to actually have equipment for 90mph (although when it gets M-8s they will be able to do some good speed) because you end up with so little running time at that speed, because of accel/ decel. I was just wondering, because the OP said they aren't allowed to...

Nice. Was it east or westbound? If it was Eastbound, why wasn't it initially towed to NHV for new power?

Wait, they renumber the train to avoid having to put a bathroom on it? That's a new low. Why couldn't they stick a cab car in there anyways for the bathrooms? Also, don't they have six trainsets for four trains? Couldn't they piece something together with a loco a cab car and two or three regular ca...

Noel, We already have more than a few trains during rush hour, and continuous bidirectional service is the ultimate goal. When they get double-sided platforms in, Amtrak will let them run more trains, some passing sidings could increase the dispatching capacity more. There are two words to justify S...
