Major screw-up (or incredibly bad luck) in Bound Brook it seems. THis article says the train stopped in a location such that the flood gates to prevent flooding in Bound Brook could not be closed. Oops. https://patch.com/new-jersey/bridgewater/stuck-nj-transit-train-stops-flood-gates-closing-videos...

Some opinions on the various comments I see: Montgomery to Mobile - Connecting two small and not growing metro areas through >150mi of nothing along a highway with little traffic and high average speeds, does not seem to be of particularly obvious value as a priority, and I imagine more frequencies ...

Anyone with a take on this: http://www.vermontbiz.com/news/2018/feb ... nt-service" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ?

I can't see that going through, but that it's on the table at all seems potentially ominous.

As a bit of a note on this whole topic, while the station ventilation system may be inadequate even if it was working correctly, the reason things are so bad is just utter neglect, to a degree I find astounding. Almost the entire ventilation system is broken or other otherwise non-functional. This M...

Not a bad idea. Feeder services support additional ridership. Except these towns already have nearby service actually going somewhere useful (SEC/HOB) in most cases. Why add an additional ride in the wrong direction rather than just taking your local train? Even if you're trying to just get people ...

http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2017/02/26/mbta-leads-nation-derailments/RmOFyuZ3XQDdjVWH6PNWhK/story.html The MBTA also runs the busiest light rail system in the country. All else being equal, it ought to be leading the nation in derailments. And per-passenger, it has vastly fewer derailments tha...

Are there some elected officials we should be reaching out to? Does the Globe or Herald know about this design flaw? I believe this issue will get elevated and will have some traction in near future. I'm going to give this one a few weeks to see how it plays out before strongly advocating for 'call...

During a recent trip to Washington from Boston on the Northeast Corridor I was pleased to notice many development projects underway all along the corridor. I was quite surprised to see plenty of remaining inventory for redevelopment in places that I expected would be out of space. As my memory serv...

1. Working conditions and pay in this case are probably lower than any other transit system in the northeast but they still have to deal with the same high cost of living. What? Philadelphia has a drastically lower cost of living than the other major cities (NYC, DC, Boston), especially with regard...

Considering South Attleboro does 1462 boardings a day, making it the 9th highest ridership station for inbound boardings in the entire CR system, I would go with "never" (Especially since it also has 568 parking spaces). Numbers from 2014 MBTA Bluebook.

I believe it's been noted elsewhere that overtime is down ~15% vs 2014, which is probably a better comparison given winter 2015. The money room is literally what it sounds like, counting/processing of cash payments in the system. It's also been widely reported on this month for massive security and ...

The biggest problems with the Newton stations is the lack of fare equity with the D-Riverside Highland Branch, which is located in higher-income neighborhoods than the main line stations but have fares 1/3 of Auburndale Zone-2 despite traveling a longer distance to Boston. Can't build ridership wit...

The local roads and the highway ramps certainly can. There's very little local traffic and 15X is a monster of a highway exit. (And the Meadowlands Parkway from Rt 3 doesn't have much traffic...although Rt 3 gridlock certainly is an issue from that direction). Can the Turnpike itself support it? Tha...

I see no problem with them existing, and I believe that continuous recording is probably the optimal method. I'd say that they should not be allowed to be used for "active" monitoring, but only in the case of misconduct allegations (or accidents/other mishaps) by investigators. Someone's b...
