Hi Pacific Northwest Railfans, I am planning a trip to Portland, the Bay area, and La this summer to see friends and Family. I will have plenty of time to chase trains, and am particularly interested in railroads that still roster older(pre-SW1500) end cab switchers. Three that I know of and am look...

This should be interesting. I'll have to make a trip down to Peoria soon to see the combined Tazewell and Peoria, Illinois & Midland Railroad, and Toledo, Peoria, and Western railroads!

So the other day I ent down to shoot my favorite little shortline. They switch a bunch of industrial trackage with 3 SW9's of the same pedigree. All Built in 1951 for the BRC. One engine, 1208, is retired, the other painted in CB&Q colors awaiting repairs, and their newest addition, 1209 has a n...

Its funny that you chose thaose pictures. The CIRY picture features it waiting on cars from the same company mentioned in my previous anecdote. That engine is ex BRC, and you chose a picture of the same engine back in its BRC days (I think, the company owns 4 and the numbers are jumbled) But yeah th...

Future of older EMD units

Here in Chicago, year after year, old EMD geeps and switchers, 1st generation ones especially, have been disappearing. Are these older units serviceable, as in Are parts till available for them, or are they all just going to die sooner or later? I know atleast some 567 models are unserviceable. Its ...

Yeah that engine was putting on quite a show. I wish I had a shot of it first starting, it did a nice alco impersonation. Usually when this happens, the railroad will send a lone SD unit or both of their SW1500's working together, but the switcher was just in the area that day, so it was put on the ...

speaking of switch engines, what is the maximum number of cars a single sw can pull by itself alone. Be it a sw1001, 1200, 1500, etc. I've seen some vidoe's where an SW seems to pulling a fair amount of cars by itself. Also how would that compare say with the max number a cars a single alco s-2 swi...

Hi everyone, While in my local hobby shop today, I noticed an H0 Scale train set that included an F40PH in Union Pacific colors, and a few freight cars. I know this is just a children's toy, but it made me wonder. First I knew that some railway in maine rebuilt a bunch of F40's and put em in freight...
