Re: Trackage rights South of Washington DC

That answers my question. So it is the freight companies that maintain the tracks, not the towns.

Re: Harlem Line Extension To Danbury?

What exactly is Housatonic Railroad HRRC and do they have sufficient political and financial clout to sway MNRR?

Trackage rights South of Washington DC

Forgive me if this has been posted already, but I have heard that track maintenance and rights are appropriated to individual municipalities as opposed to fed govt. south of Washington, DC. Would someone confirm, disconfirm or elaborate? Also, it is understandable if this is the case, as snowstorms ...

Re: 70s Terminal Deficits: Just How Bad Was It?

As Amtrak was conceived in 1971, more or less the nadir of American railroading, and keeping in mind the fact that new businesses tend to incur large deficits in their first few years, major hardships wouldnt surprise me. Throw in the fact that its a federally operated enterprise in what was and is ...

Re: Harlem Line Extension To Danbury?

The Harlem Line is generally speaking more convenient than the Danbury spur, that is, if one is willing to drive that distance. My cousin lives in Bethel and she takes the train from Purdys often, as many of the trains are not direct to GCT. While a connection may potentially save people like her fr...

Are you referring to the Lackawanna electrics? Those were built with quality

Phila 30th street station said goodbye to its solari board and while commuters were sad to see it go they didnt put up a hissy fit.

Re: Hoboken Terminal Capacity

I never understood why the Newark Division trains ever stopped at Hoboken, except as perhaps a remnant from CNJ days. Hoboken passengers (at least on the erie side) use hoboken to path to WTC. If youre going there, then path already provides service from Newark Penn.

Re: Lackawanna Cutoff Passenger Service Restoration

Just my two cents: driving or taking the bus is generally going to be faster than the train, unless of course you hit traffic. And thats the rub: people like the convenience of not dealing with traffic. From what I understand about NJT, and someone correct me if im wrong, is that there is too much r...

Re: Port Jervis Line Operation by NJT: time for a change?

I am going to go out on a limb here but I don't think anyone from the Gov on down wants good train service from Rockland/Orange into the city. If there was, there would be trains/light rail (or at least provisions for the future) on the new Tappan Zee Bridge. Why 2 bridges instead of one that could...

Re: Port Jervis Line Operation by NJT: time for a change?

I think the Suffern Station is actually owned by the MTA since there is an MTA style canopy there as well as waiting shelters-plus the station is in NY State obviously. I believe that Suffern Yard is owned by NJT. It would be nice if there were MTA crew members that were qualified to operate the We...

Re: Woodbury Commons Station

One of my first posts on this forum was to suggest a part time stop designated exclusively for shoppers....that seems to be what is happening now with Woodbury Common. It most likely would not make sense to have every train on the PJL stop there (especially considering the likelihood of doubled serv...

Does this affect the contractual service NJT operates with Metro North? I've heard it said that the port jervis service is njt in virtually every aspect except its name.

You might just get your wish, as they are adding a few more tracks in hoboken.
