Re: VIA's Ocean is set to resume on August 11

From my experience the Ren. sleepers are in better shape than most of the Chateau sleepers. Most of the Chateau sleepers have not had a major refurbishment since the early 1990s and they really need it. The last one my wife and I travelled in was a disgrace. Last week we had rooms in a Ren. sleeper ...

Until today the usual consist of this weekly train has included two Renaiassance coaches, four Ren. sleepers, two HEP coaches and four Chateau sleepers. For the foreseeable future there only Renaissance sleepers on the train according to Reservia. The second Ocean starts in early December and the th...

Greyhound shut down on the 13th of May 2020 - temporarily so it was said then. This article is from May 7th, 2020. https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/greyhound-canada-coronavirus-1.5559180 Recently the CBC news interviewed a young woman in Windsor who said she always takes Greyhound to Toronto and did...

VIA has slightly increased corridor service

This is, I believe, the third timetable issue of the year. Unlike the previous two which reduced service, the one effective April 1st contains some added trains. Four days a week - Friday through Monday - there is an additional train in each direction between Toronto and Ottawa and Toronto and Montr...

I'm still waiting on reading Siemens railcars being bought to replace the ancient HEP Budd built cars on the Canadian and Ocean. That would be earth shaking news. There are coaches of an older vintage: the 1946-era coaches purchased in the 1990s from various US sources. Seventeen of those were to b...

Thank you for posting these interesting photos. I was hoping to visit the site in August on an Atlantic crossing of the Queen Mary 2, but as with all ocean voyages that was cancelled.

VIA had their so-called Annual Public Meeting on Thursday 13th inst. As usual there was little information given that we don't know, but answers to questions from passengers and other interested parties are provided. Many questions are not answered properly, but some were. On the subject of the &quo...

Sure, but when you were already losing $600 a ticket for the Canadian in the first place and hemorrhaging money elsewhere, management in Montreal might be looking for an excuse not to open up that expense if they don't have to. Now that actually makes sense. Or more specifically, if you truly belie...

There is some restoration of VIA trains on Thursday: the Québec-Ottawa trains and the Southwestern Ontario trains. It wasn't clear why CN forced VIA to discontinue those lines. Freight service continued.

VIA has not explained why the "Y" at Windsor Jct. couldn't be re-installed. Other than the cost, does anyone know of any other issue?

... There is a Wye at Truro where the train could be turned but it would have to run backwards for 65 miles either before completing the run to Halifax or after departure the next day. The locomotives could run-around and lead the train.....but the cars would be backwards including the 'Park Car' d...

Thanks for the link. As someone who is not a serious photographer I appreciate trip reports from those who are. It is refreshing to know that some enthusiasts are as fond of the Renaissance as I am. When they were new there was a frequently read attitude that they were no good. That was the party li...

I'm embarrassed to admit that after dozens of trips in Renaissance sleepers I cannot recall for sure if they have been given water en route. I think it might have occurred at Campbellton, but perhaps someone else can clarify this. I have never known the water to run out for Renaissance showers even ...

By kicking VIA "Entirely off Toronto-London-Kitchener" this will result in more than "losing frequencies to St. Mary's and Stratford". This will end service completely to those points. I suppose residents of St. Mary's and Stratford - as well as those of us who visit the well-ren...

They didn't have to steal a Park car from the Churchill trains. That service doesn't normally have a Park car except for a few weeks in early autumn, although VIA has been running one on both consists this summer. There are 14 in the fleet, of which four are Prestige. Two are needed for the Jasper-P...
