Why can't this route be restored by Via Rail to run and stop through Maine? Border concerns on both sides of the state? If there was ever a time to reinstate the Atlantic...it's now. Canadian Pacific has re-acquired the line west of Brownville Jct and has extensively upgraded the route. Irving NB S...

Yeah, but if it didn't stop in Maine, does it really count? Sure it counts! The 'Atlantic' stopped at six stations along the 200 miles across Maine. Below is the timetable for 1981. A passenger could ride between two Maine stations or board in Maine and ride into Canada. Brownville Jct just north o...

Most would say the last scheduled passenger trains in Maine until the launch of Amtrak's Downeaster in 2001 were Boston and Maine's RDC runs between Boston and Portland in 1965 or the Grand Trunk Portland-Montreal summer only 'passenger specials' that lasted 'till 1967......but it was actually VIA R...

On the Eagle southbound on Saturday, the snack bar attendant had a new type of card reader where the patron inserts the card or taps it him or herself--no longer do you hand the card over. Here in Canada.....we've had those Tap devices for years. In restaurants the server brings the device right to...

Originally a CPR RDC to Mont Laurier and popular winter Ski Trains before that into the Laurentian Mountains north of Montreal.....but after VIA took it over it became Le Petit Train du Nord (little Train of the North).....a popular weekend service until it was discontinued in Nov 1981. https://i.im...

Here in Canada...CN always gets a bad rap for handling the Canadian.....but that's only 4 of the other 475 VIA trains per week (Covid aside) CN handles that generally have a pretty good time keeping record. Mainly in the Corridor but also the long distance Ocean to the Maritimes.

and I am guessing since the wye in Halifax is gone the Park Car is done for good? I am also guessing that Via won't bother to put a plain-old dome on either. Yes the Park Car is gone but a proposed consist I saw of the reconfigured Ocean did include a Skyline Dome which I assume will be added when ...

The 401 can be a parking lot at times so perhaps GO is focusing on commuters heading into London (pop: a half million) and not Toronto. Like a reverse commute.

Kitchener could be a convenient mid point with trains heading in both directions.

GO Trains to London??

GO was running some test trains July31/Aug1 between Toronto and London on the north line via Guelph, Kitchener and Stratford. GO already reaches Kitchener (100 km)........a London extension would add another 95 km. https://london.ctvnews.ca/go-transit-train-spotted-in-downtown-london-ont-saturday-1....

Years late and a couple hundred million over budget.....the City of Toronto says the revitalization of Union Station is now essentially complete. This is the last phase that just opened...the GO Bay Concourse. The GO York Concourse and VIA Concourse have been open for several years. But looking at t...

The 'new' route proposed in Ontario is along an abandoned CP line that last saw passenger service.....a CP 'Dayliner' between Ottawa and Toronto at the end of the Pool Train era in Oct. 1965. What was left of Greyhound Canada were already closely paralleled by VIA. Did any regional carriers and local/tribal governments step in to take over any of the western and rural routes dropped in 2018? Has ONR considered expanding bus or rail service as a result?
