Re: New Haven In Western Mass

As noted previously, the tracks from Westfield to Northampton lasted into the PC/PVRR era, with some of the bridges and infrastructure surviving to become part of the rail-trail. North of Northampton was abandoned much earlier. The roadbed from Northampton to South Deerfield is mostly part of I-91 n...

The UTDC 01700s came in on flatcars ( image here ), so delivery to the Red Line was at least possible in the 80s, and given the fact that Track 61 is being used to test the new cars it seems like this arrangement could be replicated as long as a sufficient clearance route is still available. The OL ...

Found this link a while back covering all of bridges in the Waltham-Berlin segment: https://www.mass.gov/files/documents/2016/08/rp/mass-central-rail-trail-evaluation-of-existing-bridges-rev1.pdf It appears that the only structures likely to be removed are the timber-pile trestles; the preferred opt...

The photo in the original post is the Canal Line bridge, here is the streetview of the remaining south abutment.

The other abutment being discussed is for the bridge pictured here (looking north, with Main St/US44 at right), which was on the CNE and spanned a brook and several streets.

On a different note, does anyone know the fleet numbering for the new cars?
As far as I know, 3000 series for the D (cab) cars and 4000 series for the E (cabless) cars.

As of ~2 years ago an Upper Falls Green Line branch was on Newton's planning radar (start on slide 49), with some acknowledgement of being able to incorporate the path into the light rail ROW. I also recall hearing that the trail was constructed with the explicit understanding that it could be recla...

How much longer will CSX's bridge over the Hudson be usable? Since there's rarely any road congestion on the parallel I-90/Thruway/Turnpike, seems to me CSX might do well to shed the bridge and everything east of it and just let its customers move by truck. Slow speeds could be attributable to a nu...

In considering why WSDOT didn't attempt to mitigate the curve by building a new bridge, it's worth noting the proximity to the junction with the Seattle Sub (BNSF main/former Point Defiance route). To give an idea of the proximity, the published radio feed includes a BNSF crew on the Seattle Sub giv...

Actually, you could route it through Science Park, if a crossover can be built at North Station or Haymarket. You'd have to study the layouts. This is probably moot, something they can do in 20 years when they replace the Type 9s or have a shortage of trolley equipment. Isn't the Green Line Central...
