Since the section I was hiking on was CNJ from Tannery Road south I have a couple questions. 1. What is this structure? Was it canal related or railroad related? 2. These bridge abutments, what's the story? Many thanks...

Put on your thinking caps and please, no guess work. After the final freight run on August 17, 1956, the line was officially abandoned. The questions - 1.) When was it scrapped? 2.) What company did it? 3.) Was there a locomotive used in scrap operations? Thank you. - Brian

This photo is in the archives of the Cherry Valley Historical Society. 4-4-0 Inspection Engine #26 @ Cherry Valley. I have a conflicting report this engine does not exist as a D&H engine. One thing that really bothers me is misinformation. Have I been given the wrong info? Need a little help wit...

Anyone out there have info on station specs (architect, layout, type of building material, etc.) or can point me in the right direction? I am specifically looking for all of the stations on the Cherry Valley Branch. Thank you in advance!

To answer your question- Only two bridges are still standing on the branch, 1. The Route 20 bridge and 2. The Engleville bridge. Route 20 bridge was put into place 1954 by NYS for $133,000 and in service til August 1956. The Engleville bridge is a low-lying pre-cast concrete bridge placed upon concr...

TrainWorks 2 possibly later this year. The CV Railroad History book...a couple to a few years, I want to be exhaustive in my search for pictures of the line in operation as well as concrete information about all aspects of the line. As for the Seward bridge, it is owned by the Kniskern family in Sew...

Russ, Ah yes, the "shadow path" you speak of. Gotta love satellite imagery! I've spotted it before to the east in the fields around Lowe Road as well as in the fields around Keller Road between Sharon and CV. Anything is possible. I've been back to examine those abutments and right where t...

Russ, The area in question is immediately east of the Bates Farm bridge abutments. It was the largest on the branch at 63 feet and was a steel lattice deck. To my knowledge and from talking to the Bates family there was never a wye there, let alone anywhere else on the branch. Now, that is not to sa...

That would be Patrick Road which loops from Warnerville Cutoff to Route 10 just south of Hyndsville. Although Judd Falls was not railroad related, well before the making of the re-route of Route 20 in 1954, there were mill ponds, a mill, a schoolhouse and residences relative to the CV exit. This wou...

Forgive me for the quality. This photo taken at Seward looking north as the train crosses Route 165. Thank you Mrs. Bowers for being there that day.

Mark, Was it Vintage Rails? I believe that DVD is in the collection. The shot you are thinking of is of a steam locomotive move at the northern end of the CV yard. Its a shame that's the only known footage of any live action on the branch. The entire line had one main 21.04 miles from the junction a...

Chris,

I sent you an email. If you did not receive it, let me know. How cool is it that the great, great grandson of William Campbell is on this forum?! Awesome.

Mark, The bridge is around 60'. It is comprised of 4 sections of precast concrete slabs set on concrete pilings. The 63' foot lattice deck was steel and as far as my research, was always metal. At the beginning of the branch most of all the substantial bridges were timber and eventually replaced wit...

Russ, There is one other bridge still intact. I refer to it as the Engleville bridge. It is nestled between Sharon Springs and Hanson Cross Road through a desolate stretch of farmland. It is of concrete. This was put into place in 1929 after the low lying timber trestle that was there washed away du...
