I travelled PHL - NYP in Acela First Class on 8/6, and selected a non-Starr Restaurants entree: "Baked Salmon Lattice" (salmon en croûte in puff pastry) with spinach and sorrel butter, which was accompanied by a Prosecco béarnaise sauce. Dessert was a jarred Tiramisu made in Italy. All ite...

Worst I know is United Airlines; they're bombarding you as soon as your flight lands - and it sounds as if Amtrak, which I haven't used for almost two years (not a boycott, just no reason) is not far behind. There’s a fairly tight timeframe where you can send a survey out to buyers and have it qual...

In this era of cashless tolling there's no longer a logistical reason to do the one-way tolling at the Holland and Lincoln tunnels. Change it to $8 each way plus $5 "new rail tunnel" fee for non-buses and we'll fund Gateway in no time. I personally have always enjoyed New Jersey's "y...

Well, perhaps the cost of the *service* of the food and beverages does get covered by the revenue. It's just the cost of the food/beverage product itself that doesn't

Ah. I thought they put a diesel on north of NY somewhere, I don't know why. Maybe they once did? Oh well!

My past suggestion for this idea would be to send Amtrak Regional 66 over the Grand Junction to North Station - it already has a diesel engine, and it results in a direct Northeast Corridor train to Maine from DC and New York.

RailPlan's scope of supply to the project includes all room types as well as complimentary elements like occasional seats.
I'll assume they meant "complementary"....

Currently sitting in Acela First Class on 2290, and I’m apparently the only passenger who knows how to read a seat assignment on a ticket, or find said matching seat on the aisle marker. I empathize with the car attendant.

Planned PAR track work starting in September between Dover and Saco. The Dover Planning Department has proposed installing a traffic circle at the junction of Chestnut and Third Streets. I am not sure what the timetable for that is, but the rail line will reportedly run right through the middle of ...

One local crank writing an op-ed is not indicative of much.

"the administration and ME DOT do not support financially the proposed service and we will not approve use of additional state or federal funds for this purpose." That sounds strict but seems rather toothless - was there more to it than that? If not, I suspect its intent is just for appea...

They'd definitely have to do it by charging after-the-fact; otherwise, adding an additional potential of "attendant swaps out with own store-bought product, pockets cash sale, swaps in commissary product, reports zero sales" is probably not a good idea.

I can't remember much from that HSIPR application, but didn't PanAm actually pledge a small amount of matching funds? Several hundred thousand dollars, if I recall correctly.

I must be mis-remembering, but I could have sworn Amtrak temporarily used Grand Central Terminal for several days just a few years ago, and the Lake Shore Limited was among those trains. I remember a shuttle bus connecting Penn with Grand Central while this was going on.
