Been a while since I've been here. Nice to see work on the bridge. Anyway, I plan to do a playlist for both the G & U fan and the Super 8 fan. Could be YouTube or could be Vimeo but probably not both. I think I'll do the same 50 footer over and over but progressively higher quality each time. It...
Is this a small perhaps 2 foot gauge locomotive in this pic? It's yellow on the right. https://www.facebook.com/mgtowtechnique ... =3&theater" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I own an H2-44 Fairbanks locomotive and the cab end / rear truck traction motor blower assembly is directly ( shaft) connected to the other end of the "radiator fan motor generator". This RFMG is used to generate 165 vdc to power the radiator compartment fan motor. The RFMG is belt couple...

90 pounds, and I believe through the decades it has slowly gotten higher.

Thanks for the replies everyone!
On older EMD diesels (and newer ones too im assuming) the TM blowers constantly blow. Im familiar with the GP40s models However, on some electric locos, ALP44s and ALP46s which I run, especially the ALP44s, they shut off if sitting for a long time and turn on when they start to move, if temperature...
If I'm not mistaken, a traction motor blower is a huge squirrel cage fan that partially sticks out of the left side of a locomotive right? Does it blow through tubes to each traction motor on both trucks? Does it wait until the traction motors heat up or is it always running? What voltage do they ru...
Numbers I gave were from an EMD GP-20 operating manual, but do you have THREE PHASE power? My house does not- Lookin the Grainger catalog for ventilating your form, not EMD Catalog 90- No, I don't have 3 phase ac power. I wonder what a phase converter that could run that might cost? Hahaha, I would...
I'm guessing you're talking about an EMD fan, correct? Alcos and earlier GEs were gear driven- Your household power isn't even close on any parameter. An EMD D-14 alternator produces three phase 170 VAC at 111 1/3 cycles, when turning at a C or D engine's max speed of 835 RPM. And why do you need 1...
If I'm not mistaken locomotive radiator fans are ac motors right? What maximum voltage and hertz are they meant for? Would they work off the 120 volts 60 hertz you get plugged into the wall? Or the 240 volts meant for a stove?
Thanks for the comments on the photos. At times I was standing in snow well over my knees. G&U does still use the 160.245 frequency. You will hear the engineer using the train radio to the guys on the ground, portables. No base stations/dispatchers, so you've got to have a good scanner/antenna ...
