Please note that Air Line is two words,
just like Shore Line, Hartford Line, Springfield Line, Harlem Line, etc.

There were no airplanes around in the 1870s when the Air Line was built. It was called that because it was the most direct line between New York and Boston.

Possibly stupid question... it doesn’t appear that they have a runaround (yet) in Hopedale. Since that’s the end of the line (so far), once a train arrives there how to they get the engine(s) to the other end for switching and the trip back? There was a runaround a few years ago during my last visi...

The track used to curve to the north to serve that big US Steel warehouse. But that closed, and the curved track was not rebuilt when the new bridge was built.

According to the article, the site is at 120 Forbes Ave., which is north of Forbes Ave. (US 1), not south.
