Re: "Up North" Gawking (District 1 sightings)

Not a bad idea to consider that the feasibility for CSX starting to offer service in the Port Saint John container market begins once they can reliably move those containers to/from the port and their intermodal trains originating and terminating in Worcester 2nd/3rd day transit time (clock starts o...

Could be some of that too. All I heard was for crew qualifications mixing between the PAR and B&A territory with the goal of adding a second train pair as "intermodal" and running faster speeds in D2. Up to this point CSX has publicly stated that they didn't plan for a big intermodal ...

Mr. QB, once again for all concerned, I left the MILW - and the industry - December 1981 - for private CPA practice. Staggers was still being implement so I have no first-hand experience regarding publication and discrimination in the post-Staggers rate setting process. But when compared with what ...

I'm guessing this block of Irving lumber is headed for Selkirk via CSX M427? Or would some of it be headed for PAS/NS at Ayer? I'm guessing any Irving lumber bound for NS would go via CP across the Moosehead? As I'm seeing it, you're on target with the 1st and 3rd questions, Mr. Barlow, and with th...

Finally, to close with a thought on topic, Chessie thinks she can be competitive needing 2-3 days to get a shipment from SJ to an "interchange" with the B&A at presumably Worcester? As I see it, Mr. Norman, 2nd-3rd-day Port Saint John/Worcester, MA & speedy connections gets 6th-7t...

The good thing about railroads is that they are an old business with a history. So, oftentimes if we're willing and able, we can look backward to think about the future. In this particular case looking back, even when Conrail owned this proposed routing option consisting of branches among others, in...

CN's participation in SJ points to how in the intervening years between completion of their first phase of infrastructure improvements ~3 years out and fully clearing or speeding up their railroad, CSX could begin competing and participating as well. To their extent of willingness and ability in get...

As I see it, 3 years out at the completion of their planned infrastructure work, regardless of lacking overhead clearance, CSX enters the ballpark to begin competing for Port Saint John container traffic, including to some degree across CPKC competition into the US Midwest. At that point in the game...

17 of the 22 miles are on a dedicated freight-only track free of catenary with the other 5 under catenary raised to accommodate fully-enclosed conventional autoracks, all created during a ~2002-2006 taxpayer-funded project for the Providence and Worcester.

What destinations will these intermodals go to Alanta,New jersey,Chciago,Mexico,Etc? CSX's potential within the containerized international freight market via Port Saint John is the US Midwest most importantly, with southern New England (Worcester, MA) and upstate New York also possible. While CSX ...

Yes, Mr. Norman, she shares with GWI's P&W for Radius/Schnitzer scrap metals traffic moving for export via Providence.

I also failed to mention Attleboro, MA as a New England yard as well, that along with Auburn ME and the recycling and ship-loading Everett and Providence facilities also has rail capability. Interesting to what extent, if any, the facilities without rail, like Portland or Manchester, truck to rail-s...

A half million grant to help get the line up out of the mud as well as Schnitzer's, now Radius Recycling, year-old investment into their shredder operation might be good news at least in the shorter run and/or as it might relate to this re-development project. Moving along out to the distant horizon...

Like it or not, the bigger underlying fundamental trends drive the train, whether for this specific potential Everett re-development activity, Beacon Park, or other past or potential examples. As metro Boston grows, there's a lot more economic value in using land for housing and modern growing busin...

Building more capacity for G&U interchange, in fact, supports reduced freight activity east of Worcester on the Framingham line. By using the G&U for traffic once or prospectively utilizing the now-closed Beacon Park yard or existing Framingham yards not only eliminates or reduces activity, ...
