Re: Reseau Express Metropolitain (REM) Montreal, QC, Canada

Will be interesting to see what it will take to extend the plan a half mile to the VIA/Exo station at Dorval. Seven hundred metres. That’s what separates the planned Réseau express métropolitain light-rail train station at Trudeau Airport from tracks used by Vaudreuil-Hudson commuter trains and Via ...

Re: VIA gets $71m to study Toronto - Montreal corridor route

Cat meet political pigeons Via Rail's business case for a multibillion-dollar high-frequency-rail project between Toronto and Quebec City would receive a boost if it ditched the stretch from Montreal to Quebec City, internal federal documents say. The document, labelled "secret," was obtained by The...

Aircraft have INS, GPWS, TCAS, ILS. Their pilots can operate one off charters with charts loaded on an iPad and without familiarization flights except for the trickier spots. They can be located in three dimensions anywhere in the world if equipped with ADS-B and have subscription to the satellite s...

There's a bunch of RDCs in Vermont doing nothing, right? But presumably have no PTC etc etc

I realize this is near T***oliner levels of speculative/provocative posting, but if a tilting train is required, then there is always dieselising the Acelas when the Avelias come :D :D :D

Re: Cascade Wreck 18 December 17

I don’t think we can really hang a “look at aircraft/airlines” sign up when we are still mired in the 737 Max fiasco (and not long off the 787 battery fiasco) As for signalling/protection systems, the US and Canada could have signed on to the EU’s work on ETCS/ERTMS andbut instead are frozen in the ...

Re: Cascade Wreck 18 December 17

While the NTSB may not have legal authority to force an action by Amtrak such as retiring the Talgos, it would certainly be a bad start to any lawsuits arising from even slight derailments in the future, especially when the media is roped in. I wonder how much actual work has been done on repairing ...

Re: Cascade Wreck 18 December 17

Question for me is whether the 8s can still be operated, and if so that means the Beech Grove trainsets (assuming the door interlock issue can be solved) end up heading west and the 6s get parted out/turned into razor blades.

Could have had versions of these 100mph Rotem trainsets, if Rotem hadn't made a mess on other US work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRSxcKiIpwU" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Soon to be available in hybrid https://www.railjournal.com/fleet/irish-rail-and-porterbrook-order-mtu-hybri...

Re: Regional rail to Pottstown

This sounds quite viable compared to the KOP extension of the Norristown High Speed Line. The hardest problem is where are they going to lease dual-power locomotives. It is not like there are a lot of them sitting around at NJT or Exo to lease to SEPTA. wait under January 2020 when Exo will be kick...

Re: Amtrak Downeaster Discussion Thread

I'm struck by the intention that if PTC is stuck with, that the second platform seems planned to be on the through track. A platform (high on the full length) on a stub track on the inside of the current platform would seem to me more convenient for passengers, not to mention any other movements on ...

Interesting that Quebec would be going with CRRC and not Bombardier... Theyre the most nationalistic province in Canada, so one would think they would want a Canadi>n product.... Bombardier messed up their relationship with AMT/Exo by winning a tender and then admitting they couldn't deliver. https...

Is Amtrak planning NEC electrical reinforcement in MA/RI to support Avelia? If they are, now might be the time for MBTA to stick their hand up since it might be a lot more expensive later.
