Re: MOVIE: Unstoppable

I caught a sneak preview of the film this Saturday and I have to say it is very good. It is indeed loosely based on the CSX 2001 runaway. They use a lot of railroad terms seemingly correctly in this film. I would definitely recommend seeing it (and Denzel is awesome at the helm as an engineer :-) )

Re: High speed rail line to stop near Madison's Monona Terra

Definitely the obvious choice and a very clever place to put a rail station (think of the boon to the convention center during conventions). I would however like to know how they are planning to route the track westward out of Madison, as the existing (single-track) rail line goes directly through t...

Springfield (MA) Line -> High Speed Rail? With enough $$

I've been looking at the possibility of converting the Springfield line between New Haven CT to Springfield MA to high speed rail, which is part of the federally designated Northern New England high speed rail corridor. Of course, by high speed rail, I mean the laughable 80 mph, with the possibility...

Fantasy Map Revisited

Here's a revisit of my map, this time to include an outer borough loop, along with various other tweaks and improvements. These new lines are not just highly important, but necessary to maintain adequate mobility in the City. Note that the right edge of the map is cut off here. Just click here to vi...

Great map work there. I'm a little surprised you didn't take advantage of the Rockaway (Whitepot to Rockaway Blvd/Ozone Pk) and Bay Ridge branches, especially since the latter is so often cited as a line to convert to rapid transit. Thanks! I like to use the term "fantasy" only loosely, a...

Has the Bronx portion of the fantasy maps (as shown) ever been a serious proposal? Likewise the Brooklyn connections? Many of the outer borough connections to the SAS were discussed in this thread as ideas that were being talked about (e.g. the 125th St crosstown, connection to the Dyre Ave line). ...

The Q would utilize the unused express tracks on the Dyre Ave line. There would be no shared trackage. Is there some reason why that wouldn't work?

The right edge of the image is chopped off. If it's doing the same thing for you when you looking at it, just copy the location of the image and paste it in your browser.

I've read the replies in this thread on this matter, and the newest version of my fantasy map addresses these ideas, particularly the ones about branches of the SAS/extensions into the outer boroughs. There are two versions. One without Queens Blvd super express tracks http://img147.imageshack.us/im...

Extending the L northward along 10th Ave would be a useful extension, to at least the Javits Center and possibly to 72 St to meet the West side IRT. However it will never happen due to cost. Just look at the 7 extension.

I used to use this connection all the time. When 1679 stopped at State St, I would transfer across the platform to the MN train. Why they would remove this transfer is beyond me.

Why did SLE alter the schedule of this train so there is no longer a connection to MN 1579? Yesterday I was riding SLE 1679 and I was rudely surprised to discover it now no longer stops at State Street, where there used to be an easy cross-platform transfer to MN 1579. The SLE train even gets into U...

Cool pics, as usual dude!

So it looks like to be reefed we have a mix of R32s, some old work cars, and either R40s or R42s (I can't quite tell from the pics).
