Re: Supermarkets deliveries by rail?

Google maps shows both Allied Frozen Storage and C&S Wholesale Grocers/Tops Frozen Distribution that sits along the PRR at or very near Gravity.

About two weeks ago, as I drove along Rt400, I noticed at least 10 cars docked along the warehouse. Nice to see rail business on the line.

Re: Seneca Army Depot-Anything RR left to view?

Well I took the tour. Kinda disappointed but the tour was mostly weaved around the Igloos [storage bunkers}. I took pictures of pictures that were better than what was left. So many people got so excited when any deer, especially the white deer came into view. I just kinda sat there waiting to move ...

Seneca Army Depot-Anything RR left to view?

Next week I'll be taking a tour on the depot property for white deer and other things. Just curious if anything is left to view in regards to the railroad. Are rails still in the ground? Rail cars land locked? Its been a very long time but I seem to remember flying over/near the depot and seeing box...

Re: Could it be 3 miles long?

NS has run some trains in excess of 17,000 feet on the Tier. This has allowed them to remove 36T and 37T from the line but there are drawbacks. For example, NS attempted to run 309 with length of 17,000+ ft and no DPU a couple weeks ago. The train was unable to exceed 30 mph. NS 309 has generally b...

CN 8810 and METRA in Frontier 8/23

When I went over to the Frontier Yard the other day [3 mile long trains] CN has either a new unit or a refurbished unit 8810. Boy does it look clean and shiny. I have a picture of it but its an iPhone pic in the evening. Better than nothing. In the same picture I caught a METRA unit here as well. Th...

Re: Metra Locomotive Assignments And Maintenance

This is the Metra unit I saw in the Frontier Yard the other day. Just had the chance to post the pic. The CN unit (8810-freshly painted) is on another track. I haven't been back to see if its still here.

While riding my bike I came upon a newly installed plaque of a train wreck on the bridge.

Found some items in Tonawanda

While riding the new bike trail [Seems complete] from Rt5 all the way to the end, I came upon some info and physical "stuff" that may be related to railroads. Whoever designed this bike path, should be awarded a bonus or something. The plaques that are posted along each trail crossing has some sort ...

Re: Metra Locomotive Assignments And Maintenance

Metra unit #94 is currently sitting in the Frontier Yard in Buffalo. It is clean and shiny right down to the rails. It is not coupled to anything at this time.

Could it be 3 miles long?

I'm sitting at the Frontier Yard and enjoying the view. Good timing today. It really busy. One train has caught my attention. It is a very long stack train with 2 engines on the front and 2 engines operating in the middle. Crew change and departure westbound about 7:20pm. While I'm writing this an e...

Re: New Tonawanda to Buffalo Rail Trail

While headed up to Canalfest in Tonawanda/N Tonawanda, I stopped at the new section of the path. I was surprised that little progress has been made since I picked up the piece of scrap rail. The pavement has been put down but the final touches at each road crossing isn't finished. I'm wondering if t...

Re: Protected rail crossings

They need to install a gate that crosses both lanes. That will cut down on stupidity. Obviously, it will never eliminate all of them.

Protected rail crossings

Over the years, we've had random discussions about protecting rail crossing to prevent crashes. Last week, I was watching a Trans Siberian Railway video [Trans-Siberian Railway Winter Journey - part 4: Ulan-Ude - Lake Baikal - Irkutsk on Train № 001M -doc7austin’s DreamlinerCentral] Pretty good vide...

Re: Looking around Western New York

Well, that's not too bad considering how long it took New York Central to consolidate all those little railroads.

Re: Looking around Western New York

While riding my bike along Ohio St and up and over the rails the feed ADM and GM along Ganson St, I noticed 6 gons loaded with brand new RR ties. My guess is around 6000 new ties sitting there. I wonder what area they are for? I did see a company there a few weeks ago scooping up a large pile of old...
