Mr. Fernald, They are indeed lovely, at least you don't have a slew of derelict industrial sites to go by. If you think abot it 90% of all excursions are trees, unless your on the one through the Sahara. You have a very nice ride through a typical down east Maine area, and it is what it is, that is ...

You’ll get to see the famous mountain ranges of Ellsworth, Maine---Just kidding. I rode the line some years ago and if memory serves me, it will be some backyards, trees, sounds like their yard at Washington Junction, a high school and a wilderness area. A lot like the CSRR run to Conway. A train ri...

I picked a bad time to go on vacation, looks like they have moved something. Good for them, I can't wait to see it for myself. Any updates from Mr. Fernald at Downeast Scenic?

Drove by Washington Junction today and saw the DSR guys in there working, actually saw someone cleaning a crossing out that way. I didn't have time to stop in, maybe one of them could tell us what they are up to and what they have planned.

One needs to read the article carefully. The judge has only denied the states request for an immediate restraining order to remove the berms henderson placed on the tracks. Nothing has been decided in this case as to the actual issues of ownership, etc. I'm sure this will take a bit more time to sor...

Dave, Have you talked with the guys at Downeast Scenic? I thought that having something dedicated to the history of the Maine Central was part of their depot plan.

The ROW is 66 feet wide except in certain yard or station locations. This link is for the rail with trail study done by MDOT in the 1999. I beleive the total cost estimate at that time to be in excess of 38 milliom, Brewer to Calais. It could have been done, but at what cost, better to put 38 millio...

You are assuming that everyone who has posted here has something to do with the Downeast Railroad. I think that reading the posts reveals that is clearly not the case. Your points are very good ones, but who is to say that they are not doing it aleady? Maybe you should contact them with your ideas s...

The Station belongs to the Town of Machias and the boxcar belongs now to the trail group, which they have painted and logoed in original MEC lievery. I have heard that they want to use both as a visitor center and trailhead. If you go to the link below there are plenty of photos to depress you. http...

They missed the opportunity to build on a fan base years ago. Look at loyalties of Ford and Chevy owners (fans) who are loyal to a brand. In a day and age where everyone needs a constituency to suceed in many things, they blew it. While they would not have made everyone happy, nor could they, they w...

What, no D&H apparel? Oh, that's right they already put that one in the crapper!

Amazing that they even acknowledge the heritage of their company, I thought that was a no no at GTS, ST, GTI, nee PAR. Before Fink, Mellon et al there was nothing and soon it shall return to nothing.......
