Georgia Southern has supposedly made it's last run to Metter; scrap metal will be trucked to Statesboro and transloaded
I noticed a Bucyrus car repair facility banner at the Georgia Southern RR siding near Jimps Rd. off Hwy. 301 in Statesboro. I'm not sure how long it's been there but several cars were in the siding.
Here's GASR coming back from dropping off a car at Bulloch Fertilizer, March 2019:
glad to see all this activity going on... working in Hinesville, it's hard to get out to see things going on at the GASR (although my wife works right beside it)... did they use reclaimed track and ties for the sidings? looks like it...
They've cleared it, but I think they ran out of money to fully rehab it all the way to Vidalia. They also rehabbed some on the end coming out of Vidalia.
A guy who works for NS posted a picture of the GASR coming back from Metter thru Register a couple of weeks ago...
To my knowledge it was U23B 3965 that went to the Southern Appalachia Railway Museum in Oak Ridge, TN: https://www.flickr.com/photos/130583782@N05/24515315409" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
All the Uboats are indeed gone... cut up except for one that went to a museum. I drive through Pembroke every day back and forth to work but seldom catch any of the trains... since L782 and L783 don't seem to swap much in Groveland anymore, it's hard to catch them there too
good to know GAF is doing well... they also used to spot rock hoppers for the asphalt plant next to Southern States... I've also heard that a paint manufacturer is coming to Metter and may become a customer along with the existing scrap metal place..
that sounds good... although I live in Bulloch Co., I only make it to Statesboro about once a week and usually after the train has come and gone. I haven't noticed the fertilizer places, Bulloch Fertilizer and Tillman, Brannen, & Minick getting much traffic lately... can't speak to Metter at all.
not too bad and cleaned up quickly...
From WRDW, CBS Channel 12 in Augusta, GA- this coal is delivered by the Athens Line Railroad shortline:

from what I've heard the Uboats are going overseas, but I don't know when, or what will replace them...
that's what I've read... I hate to see the GE's be sold since they provide some variety in the EMD dominated shortline business... I had hoped they might pick up some -7s or -8s, given the GE knowledge they must have at the Lyons shops...
That I know of, the power is usually parked at Dover, occasionally on the tracks outside Howard Lumber... not aware of power being anywhere else...
