The Collis P. Huntington Railroad Historical Society has a nice outdoor museum located in Huntington, WV. It is only open on Sundays from 2-5pm Memorial Day through Labor Day. I've been wanting to go for a while but finally took the kids up last weekend. H-6 Baldwin Locomotive, aka C&O #1308 htt...

Saw a news article in my Sunday paper that said the driver was being charged with manslaughter and has refused to talk to police. Also that the accident occured in an area where the "tracks change from high speed to normal speed".

Driver was just arrested at the hopital. Was quoted saying, "I f*cked up. I want to die". Had posted on Facebook last year photo of speedometer going twice the speed limit! Doesn't look good. Death toll was at 80 but they lowered it to 78 after matching some body parts together. Sounds ver...

I am so excited!

Sounds like an interesting and viable idea. Your only problem is this: Money. Most corporations aren't going to pay the extra money for something like that unless forced to do so by government regulation. I live in WV and it seems like every year there is some type of company that pops up with some ...

UA, I think you're a little off in your thinking but I see where you're coming from. I don't think this is antigovernment at all. I think basically Mr. Justice is admitting more or less that he figured he could just throw money at the situation and make the train idea happen (that's what he's done w...

It would be hard to say which CSX dislikes more steam or Ross Rowland! You'd think with the amount of coal CSX hauls they'd be open to it. I know C&O stuck with coal long after other railroads gave up on it, but today is a different story. From watching Jim Justice's "rise to power" an...

Greenbrier Luxury Steam Train Now in Limbo

Somehow after spending appx. $15million restoring a steam locomotive (completed) and matching railcars the owner of the Greenbrier is shocked to learn that there are major regulator issues involved in operating a steam train of a section of track heavily used by CSX and Amtrak! My best guess is they...

To follow up. I decided to order the book last week, as the site doesn't have a "shopping cart"/"checkout" feature I just emailed the guy and requested a book. He replied on Friday that he'd shipt the book out and include an invoice. To my surprise the book arived with the mail t...

I would assume the same but have no idea. I'm just observing out my office window. Maybe I need to get my FM radio back out and have a listen!

I've been keeping count (during business hours 8am-5pm) and there is on average 3-6 single stacks going through Charleston WV every day now!

I know for the last few years here in WV they have been modifying most, if not all, of the tunnels to accepts single and double stacks. From my office in Charleston I've seen a lot of them on the CSX tracks, where in the past it's been about 90% coal trains, and 10% chemical tanks. Don't know specif...

Plans are moving forward with Ross Rowland's infamous #614. If they can get by CSX's no steam policy they want to run regular service from Washington DC to White Suphur Springs WV. It will be interesting to see how two guys like Justice and Rowland with their deep pockets will fair against CSX! WHIT...

Ok, well I might give them a try. A generic operating manual is something I'm actually looking for. I have a few locomotive specific operating manuals but they seem to only say what/where everything is, not really what it does and how to use it.
