The remaining freight revenue will barely cover the cost of a single full time employee. FGLKs owners are the types who don’t like to admit failure, but sooner or later they will come to grips with reality - they are done. Last rail shipments to come out of the mill in Dec or Jan.

BIW hadn't got direct shipments to the shipyard in a long time. They received rail at their metals fabrication site in Hardings. Last year Hardings stopped getting shipments and they started going to American Steel & Aluminum in West Bath. An interim step before ASA's siding was ready involved t...

G&W isn't balking, this is hung up simply because of a unique union situation (i.e. splitting the roster into two companies with different agreements). The pace is picking up again and this may be resolved sooner rather than later.

The state doesn't want freight trains through downtown Augusta and they certainly don't want to give up the parking lot they have built on the ROW there. They also have "temporarily" torn out a bridge in the Brunswick area. As for show stoppers, the bike trail is too close to the tracks fo...

The real questions are would Pixelle be willing to sell it and for how much… Early intel says that Pixelle doesn't want to sell to another paper company. If someone would have to put a good number on the table and commit to making grades that don't compete with their offerings to get them off that ...

Read the back of a Poland Spring bottle there are like 8 springs they draw from. So don’t get hung up on on Poland even though they once had their own private line off the original Rumford Branch (their locomotive is at Steamtown). Also it is cheaper to pipe water to the railroad than build a spur.

There has been a failing embankment at Buttermilk Falls in Schagticoke - bad enough you can see it onGoogleEarth. Perhaps this contributed to the derailment. In other news I’m hearing some of the planned undercuts for the Worcester Main turned out to be too wet - which may cause them to raise the br...

Actually, it is 4/21...if you look at the decisions on the STB website it says, "ORDERED THAT THE HEARING RECORD IN THESE PROCEEDINGS WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL JANAURY 21, 2022." Cut and pasted (including spelling error - ha).

Rumford has replaced much of its coated paper production with pulp and pulpboard. The slurry is about half of what it was last year and the BFPO is going to go away sooner or later. That type of 1x a week operation doesn't fit the CSX PSR playbook, when they can just as easily move it in manifest. I...

Do the math - Whitehall is on a main and Newport on a branch. If anything they shut down Newport.

Is there a reason (s) why VRS wouldn’t just ask for trackage rights over the new PAS for the 40-50 miles between Hoosick Jct and Mohawk/RJ to get direct interchange with NS and CSX? I suspect the new PAS wouldn’t be too happy about such a concession, though. Assuming CSX, NS and G&W all thought...

I believe the point VTrans is making is that this transaction is not in the public interest if all it is doing is maintaining the status quo on traffic growth while reducing competition along the I-91 corridor and to/from VTR. That is obviously a guess, they certainly were vague about their point. I...

Now the Dept. of Justice has chimed in and has some major issues with CSX joint control of PAS and their selection of G&W as the operator.

Right, a Morristown and Erie executive (more than 1?) went to jail in NJ for embezzlement of state or county funds and there were no other bidders so they asked CMQ for a favor.

NYC leased a bunch of B&M GP7s during 1963-65. They were assigned to Collinwood. Ken Houghton's all time B&M roster contained the details of the dates and which units were leased but I can't find its present location. There is an in service pic of a B&M GP7 on NYC in Cleveland here: http...
