Another interesting note in the NICD 1001's history is its time spent as ICG 1776 (2nd)

IHB 4010 and NICD 1001 are both former bicentennial units, pretty interesting they both work in the Chicagoland area

Without getting into specifics, I can assure you that it did take place at the CP 64.9 crossover just east of the East Chicago station. That stretch of track is 79 mph.

That's my big question, what's going to happen to Mario Andretti who couldn't slow down enough to make the crossover? And why, of all places, would you speed through a slow crossover? The conductor and passengers will notice, there's a chance of derailing, and the body roll may cause you do snag a ...

The bigger question is why NICTD has a 79 mph main line littered with 15 mph crossovers? You can't expect to move passenger trains in a timely manner when you are getting such a delay to just change tracks.

It's just a smoother ride by keeping it at 10 mph rather then speeding up then braking again for the other end. As for the freight crews, the dispatcher always has the option to let the freight crew take the switches off power, but I don't believe they do because then they would have to get permissi...

It is faster, now we don't have to stop and hand line the switches. Speed limit through the turnouts are 10 mph when lined for the siding.

In addition to those trains. CSS gets CSX trains at Bailly and UP trains at Goff Jct as well.

No, those bridges were the EJ&E, B&OCT and NYC. Currently the EJ&E and one of the three NYC bridges are in service.

The C&WI ROW is pretty much done for now, with the re-route of the roadway at Torrance and the new South Shore bridge going up at Ford City curve..

Another change that's taken place is the raising of the speed limit in Michigan City between Carroll Ave and School St it is now 40 mph.

Both tracks are now CTC, the only section of ABS left on the railroad is from MP 3 to South Bend Airport. The switch at CP 75.3 was removed during the beginning of construction of the 115th st project. Anything crossing from Track 1 or 2 needs to make that move at CP 73.8

As the plan stands, after the diamond replacement all westbound trains will use the new connection and most eastbound moves will continue to use the ladder track.

To answer your question about TWC in South Bend..all movements are to be made at Restricted Speed from MP 3 (Formerly, "Grandview") to South Bend Airport. Signals are still under ABS. Some of these are the only older signals left on the railroad as everything West of MP 3 has been replaced...

The last day of service to 115th St is 2/14/12, which means the first train to bypass the station will be the 12:45 train out of Randolph St, Technically, on the 15th. Crews are currently being qualified on the new route on certain trains and as stated in an earlier post, some trains are already usi...
