Thanks. I feel sorry for SLE folk who get stuck with an MBB set... they are in desperate need of seat replacement, swapping them out for M2 seats would have been an improvement...

Mostly Amtrak and NYC area subway/commuter rail. Random international stuff as well. Early videos have rare stuff, later videos are of higher quality.

Yesterday the Hartford Line had a Shore Line East set make one round trip between New Haven and Hartford, I was lucky enough to ride and get a video of it:
Mafersa at Berlin

Is this a common occurrence?

Amtrak already has extra diners, and is soon to have an influx of new sleepers. Wouldn't it be easier to just fund a 2nd Adirondack run of just 3 sleepers, a diner, and business-cafe car (for some extra revenue seats)? They could make it an extension of 241 northbound and 232/250 southbound and ditc...

Unpopular opinion: I actually like the option of rear-facing seats. It creates more seating options to avoid sun glare while still being able to see out the window. It's something I liked about Brightline actually, the ability to intentionally select a rear-facing seat in advance before boarding. Th...

Amtrak 68 ran into a water issue. No not the lake, the MMC in MTR flooded due to a sprinkler issue. 255 equipment turned in Albany for 68, passengers where bused down. Thanks! That's pretty amazing that a problem in Canada resulted in cafe car service for us... the theory in my head was way off, it...

The Albany-Rensselaer station really needs more bus service. ... only two bus routes serve the station; one route runs hourly on Saturdays, doesn't run on Sundays and the other runs every 70 mins(!) on the weekend. What's most ironic about this is that CDTA generally has a reputation for providing ...

I'm on train 255 right now (NYP-ALB)... and the cafe car is open. I think I'm in the twilight zone. Attendant announced the unusualness of this over the PA, and when I tried to get more details as to the circumstances the conductor simply said "it's a long story". Anyone know what sorcery ...

They're replacing the bridge in the coming years, so a realignment would actually be do-able.

That said, not really worth. It would be one thing if the bridge were in the middle of nowhere, but even if the whole area were realigned for a new bridge, still gotta slow down for the station.

Expanded Auto-Trains seem like a great direction to take the LD network (as opposed to abandoning it). The amount of time an average person can reasonably drive in one day is somewhere between 6-12 hours. Draw a 6 hour radius around potential Auto Train terminals, and you have your potential custome...

since no one charges airlines by the air-mile. Some tangentially related info, but they do charge overflight fees , though these do not apply to domestic flights (either because the cost is baked into other fees, or as a hidden subsidy for domestic air travel). It's interesting because it provides ...

The main benefits for a 3rd track are: (1) to facilitate express trains passing locals (2) to allow trains to terminate / originate out of the way, and (3) flexibility for planned (and unplanned) service disruption Since all but deadheading trains stop at White Plains, and none start there, reducing...

As someone who visited Portland as a tourist, I didn't really think the Portland station was out of the way at all, primarily because there was a frequent enough local bus route which went from the station to places close to the touristy areas. It was also easy to discover this bus and where it went...

Regarding Scarsdale... tunnel the 3rd track under the existing two. There's room at both ends for a portal. No need for property acquisition.

White Plains would be much more difficult to expand, as whatever 3rd track will need to be a platform track.

If premium seating were implemented on MNRR, they would have to do a complete overhaul of their ticketing procedures and system. Currently, when one buys a ticket, there is no commitment riding a specific train. If there were premium seating, they would have to link all of the ticket vending machin...
