Considering the area, I wouldn't be too surprised; Kensington and the vicinity are no joke regardless the time of day. The Kensington neighborhood and Chester are what make people associate the Philly area with violence.

To borrow a quote from a movie; "The more they over-tech the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain". With all the hackers out there, I prefer to use cash whenever possible. I use a debit card for most "on the run" purchases. Trick is, I never have more than $35 on it a...

All the arrows left there have been pillaged by copper thieves and supposedly are being scrapped on site. The rest I think were also hauled away for scrapping. The MU numbers keep dropping. the trend of stored trains in NYP has shifted in the last week from MUs to MLVs or EPP sets. The end is drawi...

The last time I was at 30th street station, I saw 52 with the wire train (and one of the Arrow II's). I'll tell you one thing: that little diesel switcher was quite the sight coming through the upper deck!

So of course the idiot news stations are comparing this incident to the December 2013 Spuyten Duyvil crash, as if there were any similarity between the two incidents. Ignorance and sensationalism at its best (or worst). Appeal to fear at its finest. Prepare to hear nothing but ill-informed rhetoric...

Mr. Weaver's posts are always full of knowledge, analysis, and an obvious love of the subject. I hope the only traction on his mind in the near future has to do with motors.

This is not just a BNSF problem.[...]All 5 of these Class I railroads seem to be struggling with traffic growth of just a few percent. Unfortunately, this is what happens when the physical plant of a system is paired down to eliminate redundancies. I could forsee this turning into a disaster for th...

As a college honor student, I am beginning to plan out my honor's thesis. So far, I have two ideas: my first idea involves a detailed history of rail operations in the Philadelphia area, and the second one is more of an urban planning long-term transit solution for the Philadelphia area. In coming ...

We are seeing a transit boom all across the country, and all we here are asking for is 4 re-activations on lines that all ready had service for over a hundred years. I think the NIMBY factor needs to be told, "if you don't like it, move elsewhere, because this is what it takes to cultivate and...

I wonder how true that rumor is. Let's be real how well did the ACES Train do? So well it ran itself right out of business. Yes it had some peaks in the ridership but I doubt the casino's (sic) are worried about that. I can take a train to New London catch a free shuttle bus to Mohegan Sun or Foxwo...

The only possible reason I can think of for such a high cost is the complexities associated with cab signal installations on a two and sometimes three track main line railroad. I'm assuming that since the current track conditions are Class IV that the line has wayside signals. If any areas would re...

If they end up being lemons, is there any chance Amtrak will forego the Viewliner II designation and instead name them Poopliners? How could they be, given Amtrak followed an old proven design? Having a proven design at your disposal is one thing. Having a competent contractor to actually put it to...

Part of the former ROW runs through a Rutgers research facility (which contains NJ's only known old growth forest among other things, so good luck with the DEP) What research facility are you speaking of? The old-growth forest is within the Rutgers Ecological Preserve on Livingston Campus. While I ...

In theory it would work; (most of the ROW is intact and there is little condemnation of structures) but there are 2 concerns which really jump out. Part of the former ROW runs through a Rutgers research facility (which contains NJ's only known old growth forest among other things, so good luck with ...

Maybe it is time to get the Helpline phones there like they have in Hamilton. It could have an impact, but before passing judgment I would love to see some usage statistics if they are available. Just when I thought I didn't need another reason to never visit lovely New Brunswick........... Oh come...
