As of noon on Saturday, 11/9/23, piles of ties have been staged in the location I mentioned in the above post, along with 2 lengths of rail for the approach to the crossing. interestingly, there are two track panels built and staged, one East and one West of the crossing. The old signal box is still...

Things ARE happening! The bed for the new track has been dug out south of the Rockwood Rd crossing at Norfolk station. apparently in preparation for laying the track panel up to the roadway. There's also been ballast work done south of town and equipment, including the ballast regulator, staged sout...

Oh, that is GOOD news! I'm sure they will treat it with the same excellent care and respect they give her sisters.
They'll have a nice little family of FL9's running on their home rails! :-D

That could be! Reading through all this, my thinking is: "isn't that the total of BCLR'S operational assets?" My own supposition/conclusion is that MCRR is buying out BCLR totally and they have to take the Millis Branch along with the Watuppa. That said, it may be that MCRR might be better...

I wouldn't think so, but there's bound to be other departments involved.
Fr Br trackwork could be effected indirectly.

Yeah, I was guessing pretty much exactly that. That, and the push to eliminate Slow-Orders ad the whole GLX gauge debacle must have track workers pretty well tied up for now. Does anyone know what happened to the series of weekend bustitution/shutdowns that were supposed to happen? I know it was men...

Well, here's an update: Norfolk Depot: rails and ties are down for MOST of the way from just West of Walpole through to just East of Franklin with short gaps between Norfolk and Franklin. One of these gaps is, of course the crossing at Rockwood Street directly adjacent to the station. Signal masts a...

I'm gonna ask a dumb question: Why does the facility need to be at South Station, or close to downtown for that matter? To bring it back to rail... there had been discussion a number of years ago about relocating USPS to the area of C Street, where there would be Track 61 access. Well, ... it reall...

Loading mail trains was obviously a joke, albeit still a good idea if there were another mail sorting facility still on line. Note the loading docks for the mail facility face the train tracks just a pallet truck away. Worcester PO is about a block from the "Worcester Main" although not p...

There is no US Mail contract with AMTRAK or, AFAIK any rail carrier anymore. Certainly not serving BSS. if rail service were a consideration, there's no need to have it AT BSS. Building an EL station above the GMF is a non-starter. You'd need to rebuild the entire building (which, from all reports, ...

There’s momentum at last for East-West Rail, but Postal Service still stands in the way "After years of being stuck on the siding, East-West Rail sure seems like it’s on the right track now. ... But there’s one big obstacle no one seems to be talking about: the US Postal Service’s sprawling ma...

Thanks Pat! But 1960 is a bit late for my layout as I'm still running 4-6-4's, 2-8-4's and 4-6-6 T's! Also, ... turns out I DO have that book, ... both volumes! The pictures I needed were in Vol 1. They show several shots of an RS-1 pulling said coaches through the various Newtons and Brooklines and...

I am the new owner of a pair of brass (Railworks) B&A Osgood-Bradley arch-roof commuter cars. They are currently painted (what looks like) B&M maroon with black roofs. I need to know what these cars would have looked like circa 1945-1955 in commuter service in the Boston area. Also: ANY help...
