Question now is what does SEPTA do with double the number of ACS-64s it needs? Look for used push pull cars? Tack on some push pull coaches to someone else’s order (Amtrak and a Siemens commuter coach variant)! Sell 7-8 of the Sprinters to someone else? Keep all 15 and use them for the next 5 decad...

The $50 million stings since Bombardier was only $34 million more originally.

Canceling the contract was the right choice, but it never should have been inked in the first place. Government dollars should not fund the PRC.

From Mcgrath618 in AEM7 Amtrak thread NS agreed to play ball on the condition that the center track be restored up to Phoenixville, and that no wire is put up unless the pilot program is wildly successful. Does this mean no center track, no pilot? Aka will we be on Wawa time for this (aka when I’ll ...

This would include things like the potential for standard 79 mph operation as well as cost vs benefit analysis for upgrades to support 110mph operation, and where such operation is feasible. What? It’s like 10 miles to Norristown. 110 mph operation would be insanity considering how slow the rest of...

Any word about Septa piggybacking onto NJT's MLV emu order? NJT mentioned it in a presser a while back, curious if there has been any motion on this no-bid contract.

Wow, I just saw that the name Wawa Station is going to be changed to Middletown. Maybe they should keep Wawa in the station name but say Middletown-Wawa Why give it away for free when you can profit from it? I imagine Wawa marketing would want to capitalize on the opportunity to sponsor a station s...

Hats off to Septa allowing steam on their rails. It's pretty neat and I wonder how often we're going to see this.

Anyone have the scoop on timings for the move from NHIRR to Septa turf on Friday night and/or return times?

Unrelated sidenote, it's interesting how Septa didn't put up an alert on their website about opposite track boarding on for the 18th

Depends on how long the NJT contract takes. The order called for SEPTA's 250 cars as an addition to their original order, so assumedly theirs would have to be filled first. Since this would be an option from another agency, does this allow Septa to bypass the bidding process and simply go with Bomb...

Everyone should recall when the PRR tubes were built (1904-1908), no public funding was used. Perhaps one of the largest private sector public works projects. Even the New Deal was many years away. Private company with a budget larger than the Federal Government well before 2019 Manhattan populatio...

Let's see what happens when the tunnels fail. How are PA, NJ and NY tax payers going to subsidize farmers in the Midwest? $12 billion was set aside for farmers due to Trump's trade war. There's a good chunk of the tunnel right there. Housing rates in NYC are going to skyrocket even further than they...

There's no way a honey-wagon on rubber wheels could service an entire fleet hundreds of passenger cars. A few locomotives, sure, but not an entire fleet. Maybe I'm a pessimist, but there's not a snowball's chance in hell Septa could keep bathrooms clean on trains considering what a disaster a static...

Outside of that, I'm not so sure if Bilevels bricks are the magic bullet to fix SEPTA's problems. Keep in mind dwell times spike with these things, especially for a line like Paoli or Doylestown on the R5 where the stations are so clustered together. Tell that to the people that can't get a seat. F...

Wouldn't a capital expense like this require a bid of some sort or did that already happen?
