Re: Genesis - conversion to road-switcher?

To put things into further perspective: UP also auctioned off a few EMD MP15DC switchers, and those fetched between $180K and $210K each. That's a direct reflection of where the demand is right now: small switchers of moderate horsepower. I'm very curious to find out who purchased those UP Dash 8-4...

no, it was not built on an SD45 frame. Former UP SD40-2 B4231 was the core unit

From what I can gather from various sources, the CSX has de-rated the following locomotives: 6000hp CW60AC to 4400hp CW44-6 4400hp CW44-9 to CW40-9 4000hp B40-8 to 2000hp B20-8 3500hp SD50 to 3000hp SD50-2 3000hp GP40 to 2000hp GP38-2S 4400hp CW44AH to CW40AH Are there any other de-rating programs ...

currently there are 10 CSX SD40-3 rebuilds, #4000-4009. 20 additional units are reported to be rebuilt during 2011. Simply put, the locomotives are completely stripped to the bare frame with all components and wiring replaced by new or refurbished equipment. Trucks completely rebuilt. Any sheetmetal...

That would be the GMTX #9041, which is originally EMD #3, one of the demonstator SD60's. EMD #3 was retrofitted with HTC-R trucks many years ago to test the new design prior to them being installed on the 4 SD60MAC demo units. EMD #3 was traded for the original Oakway #9041 for test purposes and rem...

Those fine folks at http://altoonaworks.info have detailed the rebuilding of SD60's into SD60E's by Norfolk Southern. Of interest is the new NS designed version of the North American safety cab. Why they did not apply an existing design is a mystery. Perhaps they are not satisfied with the current ...

And is CITX still running their 2 or 6 sd90mac?
CIT has a fleet of 4300hp SD9043MAC's, not the 6000hp SD90MAC-H.

None of the 10 original Conrail C30-7's (6600-6609) survived till the splitup of the railroad, all were retired by that time. As such, none of them made it to Ohio Central. The pair of OC C30-7's you reference were actually C36-7's, which were derated to 3000hp and reclassed C30-7 by CSX during the ...

Without you showing any road numbers, I'd say they're SD45-2's that have had their 20-645E3 prime movers replaced with 16-645E3B prime movers, dropping the horsepower rating from 3600 to 3000 and essentially turning them into a SD40-2. . Actually the entire SD40-2 fleet, including the recent group ...

CSX has not completed any of the SD40-3 rebuilds yet. Initially there will be 10 of these units. The work scope should be similar to the SD50-3 rebuilds, including the addition of a Q-Tron QES microprocessor. Prior to the first of 2010 a total of 14 SD50-3 rebuilds were completed. These units were g...

the ES44DC's as well as 9000 series C44-9W's are all being derated to 4000hp. It is simply a fuel savings measure. None of the AC traction units are affected by this and will remain at the factory delivered horsepower rating.

should be noted that this is also not a scale test unit, it is a test unit for rebuilt prime movers. It lacks traction motors thus it is unable to move on its own.

I am looking for photo evidence that CSX had even ONE GP35 in the YN2 paint scheme. I have checked the usual places with no luck. ONE pic with a unit number would make my day! Thanks, Jeff No such unit existed, all GP35's were retired and off the roster before the YN2 paintscheme was adopted. The l...

The first few gensets are built on donor GP40 frames and trucks, but the newer ones are all-new. The body and cab are also all-new. They are not built from or modelled after the MP15. that is incorrect. All of the CSX genset units are completely brand new locomotives. Its possible that the Blomberg...

No, there is no such thing as an SD100MAC and EMD has never proposed such a model. Whoever started the various threads at the top of this forum came up with it.
