Hi Everyone, I'm new to Railroad.net and wanted to share my blog featuring my very own pictures/videos of the Lackawanna Cut-Off Rehabilitation project, both before and during construction/drilling & blasting of the tunnel. I plan on adding pictures as noticeable progress is made. See the blog ...

The Colebrookdale Railroad has a very detailed, 43 page "Independent Study" from 2020 available on their website. It talks about transload yards, and even the possible extension to the quarry. https://www.colebrookdalerailroad.com/site_assets/RL_Banks_Independent_Study_of_RR.pdf There was ...

Is there anything in the article that says the Redevelopment Authority plans to use this for railroad property rather than some other development? No. There was no article, just the public real estate transfer records. But every property transfer record that I've seen in Boyertown or Colebrookdale ...

According to the Reading Eagle , it looks like the railroad just got three more parcels: Colebrookdale Township Lapex LLC to Berks County Redevelopment Authority, 865 A N. Reading Ave. and 865 R N. Reading Ave., $76,800. Boyertown Foundry Company to Berks County Redevelopment Authority, Landis Lane,...

It appears the redevelopment authority purchased the land from the railroad and sold it outright to Walmart and the car dealership. That is going to make it very problematic to try to build a railroad on somebody's private business property that doesn't want it. Much of the ROW was not owned by the...

More federal money heading towards the Colebrookdale Railroad

I almost missed this one for the Department of Transportation for the Railroad Crossing Elimination (RCE) Program: FY 2022 SELECTIONS https://railroads.dot.gov/sites/fra.dot.gov/files/2023-06/FY22-RCE-Selections_PDFa.pdf Pennsylvania – Redevelopment Authority of the County of Berks Project to Upgrad...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4VSnujsm5E Video of a coke train. The video mentions the coke is transloaded into trucks for delivery. Has anyone seen the new trans load yard? Are they working on extending the line toward the Boyertown foundry? There is very little information on either of the fac...

The two main items were: 1) The completion of a transloading yard in Boyertown which should be completed this year. 2) The extending of the line 2 miles north to New Berlinville to service 2 on line costumers and a new transload facility. This is supposed to start in 2024. I believe one of the new ...

Interesting that you have found so many discrepancies with the map. This is a PennDOT produced map, so I would imagine that would have to be based on data that the state has from its own records. I guess those records are not correct! It would be interesting for obsessed railfan to contact PennDOT a...

Nah, we're good.

I'm still thankful that carajul tried to establish a rail served business on the out of service part of the Bethlehem Branch, North of Quakertown, even though SEPTA told him to go pound sand.... :)

Railway Age magazine had an interesting article titled: "PSLR (Precision Short Line Railroading)" which talks about the benefits that shortline railroads provide to both customers and Class I railroads. https://www.railwayage.com/freight/short-lines-regionals/pslr-precision-short-line-rail...

Looking at the "official" Pennsylvania State Railroad map from the link that I just posted: https://gis.penndot.gov/BPR_PDF_FILES/MAPS/Statewide/parail.pdf I zoomed and snipped the area around the airport and it appears that the line is now Conrail Shared Assets trackage. Image here: https...

As of September 2022, here is the link to the Pennsylvania Railroad Map:

As a sign of time passing, the READING paint on the bridge over Route 29 in Palm is all gone now. I drive past here frequently and can no longer make out the lettering that used to be on the bridge. (And the trees are encroaching from the sides too.) But at least the East Penn Railroad still uses th...

Hey carajul, I believe that this was the former "Northern Central Railway" which ran from Baltimore, MD to Sunbury, PA. PRR took control in 1861 and it ran until Hurricane Agnes wiped out a bunch of track in Maryland during Penn Central times. Penn Central didn't want to fix it, so they ab...
