I gotta go with the TA tools. I’m a retired M/M and I carried the brake handle and the reverser key. Being IRT I was never issued the brake plug but I know what it was used for.

The third station was Wyandanch, Pilgrim was already long gone. I think the assemblyman and his staff were referring to the stations that existed in their lifetimes in Brentwood. I’m old enough to remember when all of them were in use. I first saw Pilgrim in the early sixties when we visited a rela...

It's literally the parking lot for the LIRR MofW and NYAR crews. Pineaire Drive just a bit East of Brentwood Fire Department Company 5 You’ve actually given me the answer I was looking for. As someone else pointed out it’s across from the 7-11. It’s next to the Brentwood Fire Department and east of...

Half a mile east of today’s Deer Park station and not the older one, correct ? I’ve stopped there on my way to Brentwood when it was single tracked back in the day. What I’m trying to figure out is that the Pilgrim spur cut out before the Sagtikos crossing on the western side of the parkway and the ...

Where exactly was the station located ? I used to ride to the next station which was Brentwood which is east of the Pine Aire location. The switch to Pilgrim was west of the station. I was under the impression that Pine Aire was in Brentwood but passing by recently I saw a NYA sign saying that it wa...

I’ve been traveling along Crooked Hill Road frequently for the last 20 years or so. I’ve noticed the new construction being done and I did see some of the proposed changes in a newspaper article. I remember that the station was on the south side of G Road approximately across from the present exit f...

A short journey of two stations on the Atlantic Branch. As indicated, fare was 10 cents. The IND subway line runs roughly parallel to the LIRR Atlantic Branch, a few blocks to the north. Subway fare was still 5 cents in 1947. LIRR would have been the quicker trip, for the cost of an additional nick...

In the NYC subway system the basic rule is to have two red signals between each train. The exception to that is if supervision gives the following train permission to close in on it's leader because of an emergency situation where the first consist cannot completely clear the station. It's a safety ...

I should also point out that I've taken my southbound 5 train out of service at Fulton St ( Lex ), changed ends and proceeded northbound and taken the interlocking switch between Brooklyn Bridge and Fulton Street and became a northbound express at Brooklyn Bridge. I was allowed to make that move bec...

I have to correct some things here. I have personally operated my southbound 5 train from the downtown express track crossing over to the northbound express track and terminated and changed ends for uptown service. I have also operated my southbound 3 train into Nevins Street and terminated. I then...

Wonder why they didn’t use the NYCTA geometry cars? Perhaps they were unavailable. Just curious.

I may be retired from NYCT but I can assure you that the R142 fleet will still be here in 2040 or so . The R211 fleet is for the IND-BMT replacements and the SIRT. The car numbers will come from the R32, R46, and the SIRT cars being replaced. I pounded the road in the IRT for 30 years and have been ...

This entrance definitely needs to be monitored 24/7 or whatever hours they have it opened. I had relatives living in the area years ago and the reason given for it’s closure back then was “security “. I worked this station as a RR Porter back in the late ‘60’s and I personally never had a problem. W...
