Does the LIRR still print timetables for employees or have they migrated to a tablet based system that draws from a central database?
I looked on both a 1958 & 1976 Hagstrom Suffolk Atlas, and did not see the Speedway marked anywhere on the maps. Used to go there in the late 1960's & early 1970's for the Demolition Derbys; great fun!
Nice updates Steve. Looking at your Islip page on Trains Are Fun, did not see anything on Islip Speedway. Was that near the RR tracks and did they run any trains for the racing events or shuttle folks from the train station?
Last shot is Wantagh Avenue, Wantagh looking east (mid 1960's).
Photo B from Newkirk's 4 NOV 22 Post is Freeport (Circa 1959)
Has Valley transitioned over to JCC yet; I think it was the final tower slated to change over?
This 27 FEB 63 photo (from your website) is looking west at East Neck Road, shows Signal Bridge 358, with temporary tracks on the left side of the photo. You can probably measure the distance on a map from this location to the next signal bridge and come up with the number. http://www.trainsarefun.c...
I donated 3 timetables from the 1918 to 1923 period to the LIRR Museum at Greenport back in the early 1990's. Perhaps they can assist.
One more thing, it was painted yellow with Dashing Dan Decals.
There used to be one parked at Ronkonkoma Yard Facilities in the mid-sixties. Several photos from that time period show the vehicle parked next to a crew shelter building. Here's one from Steve's website. http://www.trainsarefun.com/lirr/Ronkonkoma/Ronkonkoma-%20yard_MOW-VW-wagon_1966_Smith-Morrison...
GOV Cuomo cut the ribbon opening New Hyde Park Rd yesterday.
Do you think they'll install a pedestrian only crossing in the interim once 12th Street is closed to traffic, or is the only way across the tracks in the vicinity of the temporary station Covert Avenue?
Where did the house come from in the top photo (upper left)? Did they knock a building down?
Isn't Harold tower is still active?
Will the existing Passenger Station / Waiting Room building be demolished?
