Been on a number of trains over the years between South Carolina and Boston and North Carolina to Los Angeles but it has been many decades since I last ate a meal in an actual dining car... likely the last trip was when I headed to Boston in the Army back in '74. Yep... did a little more reading and I see what you are saying about the new Bi-levels delivery. Only time will tell how all of this will pan out. I just hope that the money doesn't dry up before they can do something towards getting the order underway.

As I recall, about a dozen of the 220 got to wear Amtrak livery - and that was not for long.
Actually 17 cars... with about a dozen more acquired but never placed in service.

When stainless steel is to be painted it does require some sort of treatment so that the paint will stick... this was done on all of the painted SS passenger cars that were to be painted at the factory so that the paint would adhere to the steel. The original cars were constructed at Red Lion but the design, based on everything I have read about them, is from Amtrak's own offices. Budd received the contract to build them but the design isn't Budd.
