Newark platform patterns and PDFs on NJT.com?

I have a trip upcoming where I will be arriving on a NJT NEC train from the south into Newark Penn and changing to a southbound Amtrak on a Saturday. How are the platform patterns typically used? I will be arriving, I would guess, on an outside platform. And needing to change to southbound Amtrak pl...

Re: Getting a last diner meal in the northeast

Gilbert Norman, thanks for that Chicago piece. That is to far and dated. But I noticed you mentioned the Southern Crescent. I know a fan that use to do that dinner to Alexandria. Over the years I lost the details, I did not realize you were able to board in DC and dine there as opposed to riding fro...

Re: Getting a last diner meal in the northeast

I actually had thought about riding the Cresenet to the meeting point and turning back for a breakfast as well. Your idea of round trips is pretty good.

I don't see the Crescent or the Meteor very often, are these all new Viewliners now? I guess no conventional diners still run?

Re: Getting a last diner meal in the northeast

lordsigma12345 thanks you seem to get what I want. Its been 10 years since I last took one of the long distance trains. I take it you are saying they will seat/reserve sleepers first over coach? I have to admit I was only reading about this diner thing casually until I thought of this idea. I have r...

Re: Getting a last diner meal in the northeast

Is that contemporary meals the dreaded box meals? If that is the case that is not a consideration.

Re: Getting a last diner meal in the northeast

Other possible options would be to ride Crescent south to it meets the NB and return. That would allow two meals, but would require one to be up all night. I could do the same with the Meteor to Richmond. I have yet to look to see the latest northbound out of Richmond/Frederickburg, etc. Am I correc...

Getting a last diner meal in the northeast

With all the news of diners going away on the eastern trains, I though it might be nice to get in one last meal on a diner before the end. I always enjoyed them in the past. I don't currently pay a lot of attention to Amtrak so I need some details filled in, do I understand the end date is set as Oc...

Determing what equipment is running on 15

When looking at the SEPTA advisories, I thought in the past it would state when buses were being operated in place of the trolley cars. Last few times I have looked at it the map looks normal, it shows trolley icons, etc. When you click on an icon I am seeing equipment numbers in the 8000s and 5000s...

Re: Future of Route 15 as a trolley line

A Philly local fan recently posted that construction work on I-95 was moving to a new section that overpasses the track to new loop they are using near the casino. It appears that wires would need to be taken down for an extended work project and buses would prevail for the entire route 15. At this ...

Did you contact Septa yourself and notify them of your issue?

Septa Key cards, one time or refillable?

I live outside the Septa area and only use the system a couple of times each year. On my last trip the vending machine for the subway line issued me a Septa Key card, marked Quick Trip 3 places on the bottom of the card. This is my first time getting one of these. Reading the back it say only good f...

Actually cab speed goes against the flashing upgrades logic. It would be fo
some speed less than track speed.

Mass Dot F40s

A few weeks ago I was on the Corridor and saw one of the MassDOT F40s working a single level consist all day long. Not being local to Boston is this a normal occurrence or are the use of the blue F40s somewhat rare use of the engines? And why exactly is this engine different from the other MBTA units?

Re: Signal question

On many railroads, most in fact, an Approach Medium, yellow over green, is a signal used to indicate a diverging move at the next distant interlocking. However some railroads use it as a quasi-Advance Approach, meaning as others have stated a train is 2 blocks ahead. Its all how the rules for the pa...

66 Food service on the corridor early AM

On train 66 northbound on the corridor what food service is offered? Train comes from Norfolk so I know its has a cafe car. Since this train operates overnight on the NEC what would be the latest time the cafe would be open? And more importantly would the cafe open in the early AM before arrival in ...
