Re: Mobile Ticketing

It's been a while since I've ridden the Long Island (I moved) but I took the train this past weekend and used the eticketing both ways. First of all, not having to go to a TVM is a big convenience. Some stations the TVM is all the way at one end and if you're running late you don't have time to buy ...

It was an M7a car, not an M7. I wonder if they'll change that on the final report or not

Sumwalt referred to the lead MU car "ingesting" the third rail."Sumwalt said the third rail entered the lead MU car from underneath, after passing through the SUV's rear seat area. It entered the rail car under the first seat behind the engineer's compartment, but on the side opposit...

Flashing red light, end of Eastbound Exchange Place platform

I semi regularly take the PATH over to the WTC from Exchange Place. On my last crossing, a red light began flashing at the very end of the station a few minutes after the previous train departed and a few minutes before the next arrived. I've never seen it illuminated before like that. The station a...

Re: M8 Collision in Bridgeport

While obviously my first concern is with those injured in this accident, especially those critically, I wonder the fate of those rail-cars. Such a shame, they're still basically brand new. From that video it looks like there could be serious under-body damage to quite a few cars. It'll be interestin...

Re: new and old south ferry

It's costly to maintain two stations when you don't have to. Also those gap-spreaders are annoying and unnecessary maintenance. They were actually removed and had to be reinstalled before they re-opened the old platforms.

Why didn't the old station suffer flooding damage like the new one did? Aren't the right next to each other and connected in the (then flooded) tunnel?

This has been on my mind for weeks and I finally remembered and checked the forums! I'm used to the Subways, in fact, I'd say that brake dust stank is one of my favorite smells. The PATH though.... Even when you've got the breeze of an approaching train, it's always so humid down there, and the smel...

Old thread but since it's still at the top I thought I'd add my 2-cents. I was about 1/4 the way up the escalator when it went backwards. It definitely felt like the brake mechanism never engaged. It just suddenly stopped, and accelerated backwards, I think from the weight of all the people (when ru...

Those look like MTA "Watch the gap" triangular stickers by the doors.

Buy r-42 roll-sign?

I've found some examples of people owning authentic roll-signs on-line and I was wondering if it is possible to buy these. Does the MTA allow people to purchase parts of decommissioned trains? What happens to them? Do they just throw them out?

Weekly ticket length

Why are the weekly unlimited tickets so much longer than all other tickets? I normally buy monthly tickets but because of the storm I've been off so a full monthly wasn't cost effect. This long weekly ticket doesn't fit in my wallet or my ID holder (where I usually put it). There has to be some reas...

I went out for a drive last night in my area. The ROW along the Port Jeff branch looks pretty clear, Northport Station has had power, although as of a few hours ago the signal systems were still offline. Huntington was especially eerie as it was pitch black without even emergency lights and a train ...

What about the air for the engine? And where does the air go? Does it flow out through a seperate vent?
The fans along the top pull all the air / exhaust out.

Quiet cars may work on off-peak trains but when you are packing commuters in the peak trains, it will be extremely difficult to enforce. Especially considering commuters often sit in the same cars and even the same seats for their convenience (aligns with parking deck, etc) and they'll fight changes...
