Re: Detailed maps/plans

There are many sources for detailed electric railway maps in New England. Massachusetts required a form of valuation map and the Boston Elevated went far beyond, mapping their system from time to time. Seashore's library published an atlas of Maine electric lines. It is a combination of track plans ...

Re: Boston Elevated 25' Box Cars

All I could find is this #1drawing. It was once 1/12 size but, someone reduced it and now though proportional,
it really is without dimensions. I have never had a plan for a #3 nor did ORC. There are plenty of photos
and 396. 396 has most dimensions intact.

It wasn't much of an electric railway but, it was in Bolivia until the 60s or 70s.

Re: Story on the state of commuting around Boston

All this stuff is on the internet. Look for MBTA ridership statistics, The MBTA Blue Book, and other sources. The official annual ridership for MBTA commuter rail in 2013 was 35,323,276. this is probably within 2-3% of the actual total (either way). This does not include the about 42000 weekday pass...

Re: Story on the state of commuting around Boston

I think it would be nice if "Thinknarrow" re-read the articles that he quotes and also notes that the totals for Ikubukoro station include the attached metro station. I think he will find that over 120,000 commuter rail passengers a day is pretty good for a system in a city of Boston's size. I think...

I gave the wrong date, it was April 30 1956. Memory is not a good enough archive

Re: Ashmont-Mattapan Trolley Line Discussion

The last move was via Blue hill Ave. It was a couple of years too late for Cummins Hwy.
I think it was on Memorial day. The last car out was either 5800 or 5803 and our
return was 3201. Foster Palmer and Alan Pommer were there and Foster took movies.
I've never seen them though.

Re: Ashmont-Mattapan Trolley Line Discussion

I think you should all remember that El Paso is building a line which will use re-equipped PCCs and, San Diego has received some for downtown operation. There are many PCCs operating in San Francisco, mostly second hand in the last few years. A main route in Philadelphia was recently re-opened using...

Re: Chester MA... what's with all the old shoe heels??

It took me a long time to find the pictures but, here is a more likely wreck.
This one was back in 1907 when heels were a more likely cargo.
Also, the cars seem to have shed their contents more thoroughly.

Re: The Middlesex & Boston Street Railway Company

Try the Massachusetts State Library Atlas Scanning Project. They have done Middlesex County Vol. 1 which includes those 3 towns. It is not a full track chart but, it does show the exact streets. I do have a track chart but it is for west of there. (Natick & Cochituate etc.) I'll post it if it is use...
