Is that cat upgrade complete in Nj yet? Isn't that supposed to raise the speed to 135 between New Brunswick and Princeton Jct?

Good info on the electric infrastructure. I was wonderring more about the physical infrastructure limitations. Physically can an AEM7 plus consist or for that matter Acela fit thru the tunnel?

Septa to trenton via woodBourne makes a lot of sense from a passenger traffic standpoint and would serve as redundancy for amtrak. Freight traffic isnt what it was Yes this was one of the easiest to implement that I saw. Just a few miles of cat to run. We could have regular service as well from New...

Redundancy for NEC

Last weeks accident and subsequent closure between Phl and Nyp makes you wonder why we don't have some redundant service options, at least for emergency situations. For example some options that come to mind: 1) service into Hoboken if something happens with tunnels. 2) service along RVL to Bound Br...

Is anyone sure the article in question said they went Nyp - Was? Maybe it was Nwk - Bal or something like that in which case 2h15 could be true.

What they should have done from the start is build a proper Airtrain system like JFK got. They could've run it to Newark Penn where all trains stop and not built the airport rail station. Too late for that though.

I actually use Secaucus quite a bit with the valet because it's really hard to get parking in Metuchen or MetroPark at rush hours without allotting a ton of extra time and can't trust a cab to come either without calling 40 mins before. Shame we don't have more and easier parking at local stations o...

Again Njt is a NJ service for NJ taxpayers. If PA people want it pony up with your tax dollars as DE does for Septa service.

Penna won't fund infrastructure improvements ever. Just look at the fight Septa always has, the Norristown high speed line that no longer goes there because of a bridge in disrepair, the lack of an Njt station in Morrisville, despite Njt saying they would serve it without fees if only PA would build...

I vote for Market East. Not only is there regional rail with views from above the platform IIRC, but theres Patco which offers great views from the Ben Franklin Bridge, Market Frankford line, Broad Ridge spur, and old Reading Terminal, including the market underneath for good food. University City a...

A local train could certainly be part of it. As for regional running, it's not so much about thru service but the inefficiency of terminal trains. Disburse the loading and unloading by having multiple stations that get people closer to their destinations. NYC subway started it all with thru running ...

Anyone who is a member of the United Club, and I am sure there are many frequent fliers who also commute, can use the Amtrak Lounge located on the far south west end ticket windows under the escalator exit to 31 and 8. Very clean safe bathrooms as well as Tv, soft drinks and snacks. They often know ...

If NY ever bothered to undertake planning and infrastructure improvements like other major cities around the world, think Paris, London, Tokyo, even Philly, then we wouldn't have this problem. All these cities embarked on creating regional express services by linking lines that previously ended at s...

"There's a rather curious gap between W/Western and W/La Brea." Yes I agree. I believe it was decided to eliminate a station once it was decided the Crenshaw line would terminate at La Brea rather than Crenshaw. Of course this was to save money but also apparently to preserve the neighbour...
