Re: ALP-45DP's - Usage and Delivery

A curiosity question. In my normal commute I sometimes see an eastbound pulling into Mt. Arlington with a 45 - in diesel mode obviously. Other days I catch the same or another train with a 45 at Morris Plains. What's surprised me is that at Morris Plains - they're still in diesel mode. I would have ...

Bumping up this old thread with new questions. At Essex Fells there was a turntable. I'm assuming it was Erie/EL owned though the M&E could apparently use it but rarely did. Does anyone know of pictures of it? How large a table was it? Installation and removal dates?

Thanks

The train was displayed at Morristown on the siding/grounds of the Mennen Company. As pictured, the engine and some of the mechanical support cars made the short move over the Morris & Essex to the Morristown & Erie yard and shop (if I remember correctly they wanted to get the engine over a ...

The empty bulkhead flat (don't know who the customer was but someone on the original line) would have been being delivered the CSX interchange point. Center Street is in Harrison. The track can be seen from NJT trains after Newark while paralleling 280. Most traffic goes to NS at Lake Junction but s...

There are a number of GP-40 variants at the M&E shops in Morristown along with 1 ALP-45 (which I think was there pre-storm. When I drove through Thurs evening a4200 was in front of the house with the crane parked next to it. 18 was up on the hill tied on to a string of NJT engines. Traction moto...

Stopped by Morristown tonight. Rusty rails but was surprised to find NJT 4511 on the track 5 lead outside the shops. Anyone know what it's doing there? In Hackettstown last night heard a train come through from a friends house. I assume NS - anyone know how far east their going? Given conditions at ...

The railroad was built to serve the multiple paper milks that existed in Whippany many initially owned by the McEwan family that built the two railroads that became the M&E. Other traffic developed as the area grew. In the 80's and 90's the mills were gone and not only was there truck competitio...

Has 489 made it to home rails? Been placed in service? If so, are they still running single unit or back-to-back or one on either end?

Thanks

If had to guess probably "Epicurious" (or close to that) going out on a charter. It is often stored at Whippany with the other privately owned passenger equipment.

I wouldn't take that bet Cosmo - with the neighbor lawsuit in progress the governing board can avoid getting their hands dirty (or spending more money). These folks are both and obsessed - if their pockets are deep enough expect it to go to court if they don't get their way at STB. Not what I want t...

Been meaning to post - the membrane covering over the shop extension which was damaged some time ago and had been flapping in the breeze has been replaced. The new is white versus the old dark green.

7205 has disappeared from the shop area - did it in fact get sold and shipped?

The only way to find out if others would be interested would be to put it out to bid. When does the current agreement expire? When it has been offered before were there other bidders? It seems like CMSL runs a nice operation they just do it rarely and with little notice. Regardless of what else is g...

Thanks for the information. I'm wondering if Alcodoc or others can comment on whether there is really a multi-part answer to this question. I understand that obtaining parts for newer Alcos (let's say the Century series) is doable. Does the picture change when discussing older models/engines? Obviou...

Was up in Brunswick on some family business and managed to catch the afternoon return/departure of the Maine Eastern train. Small train 488, Parlor Car Alexander Hamilton and coach Magnolia. They're using the new station and there's new, but not yet in service, crossing protection on Union Street. T...
