Re: Any truth to WNY&P 6-axle Alcos leaving?

A confirmation from the Trains news wire. You will need to be a Trains subscriber to read the article. But it basically says this summer will be the last for the 6 axle Alcos, with the four axle Alcos remaining in service. The article cites "A source close to the railroad". http://trn.trains.com/new...

Re: Book on Utica West Shore railroad

Are you aware of this web site: https://oneidarailway.wixsite.com/thirdrailsystem

While it is more focused on the electric interurban operations, it is about the West Shore and includes Utica within its scope. There is a PDF book available for purchase.

Re: Status of railbikes

When Rail Explorers ran in Saranac Lake, they typically had a single guide riding a tandem bike at each end of the group, so they can definitely be propelled by a single person. Obviously, a lot will depend on the rider's physical condition, the grades involved, and the design of the bike itself. I ...

Re: Status of railbikes

Revolution Rail is running railbikes out of North Creek. I saw them in operation when I was there July 6th. Not sure about the operation in the Catskills. https://www.revrail.com/ Adirondack Scenic also has some plans to re-introduce them, but nothing firm at this time. http://www.adirondackdailyent...

Re: New Adirondack Scenic Thread (ADIX)

Looking at the website, there are no Big Moose trains on the schedule for this summer, but they resume in the fall. Other than that, the summer schedule looks pretty much the same as last year: Thursday/ Saturday trains Utica to Thendara, Utica wine/ beer and Soda Fountain trains, twice daily locals...

Re: Randalls Island Connector crossing gates broken?

That is an unusual arrangement. Those phone numbers usually connect directly to a RR and/ or their dispatcher desk so that if there is a situation where there is an obstruction on the crossing the dispatcher can contact trains in the area to warn or stop them. Or is NYC Parks in the business of disp...

Does anyone on this board know if the removal plan for the old bridge calls for the removal of the abutments in the river that support the old bridge?

Re: Portageville Bridge Replacement, Future Tier Traffic

Interesting how it is being assembled. It looks like there is a set of cables - connected at the top of the main spans with blue anchors - which are what is keeping the sections in place until the full arch is finished. The cables are evidently anchored out of view of the photo. Am I seeing that cor...

Re: CSX crossings in Oneida - closing another one?

Well, things moved a lot quicker than was suggested at the 2013 hearings, as Sand Hill Road crossing is now closed, instead of the 2018 projection.
