Checking the August 1954 Official Guide, the PRR had only six trains each way using Exchange Place, all at rush hour. Everything else ran out of New York Penn Station. Nothing terminated in Newark Penn. Five of the six would have been electric MU trains to points on the Main Line or what is now call...

That area only had two PRR and two PATH tracks.
Just to nitpick, in PRR days there were four PRR tracks there, two of which were also used by PATH (H&M), which shared tracks with PRR trains all the way to Journal Square, when the PRR was still operating trains to Exchange Place.

Last I knew, the lowest actual catenary height on the south end is under the CSX bridge in Cheverly, MD. It will not clear superliners.

By the way, there is a Broad Street Brill saved at the Illinois Railway Museum. For many years #55, equipped with trolley poles by the museum, operated one day a year for the July 4th Trolley Pageant. It hasn't run in recent years, I assume for lack of interest. Here is a video showing the car runni...

It's hard to believe the 1000's were delivered to Brentwood shops over 40 years ago! I was a young vehicle test engineer at the time working for WMATA's vehicle consultant and managed to get a few slides of the cars at the plant in Winder,GA; in route to Washington; at Brentwood shops prior to reve...

NFPA 130 only applies to new construction, not pre-existing facilities. I doubt that any railway or subway tunnel built before 2000 fully complies with NFPA 130, except by chance.

BTW don't forget that 80% of the Hudson River tunnels are in New Jersey, not New York.

Doesn't look like this fourm is active, but I'll post a question here anyway ... There is a big gathering of old "Covered Wagons", i.e. Streamliners, i.e. E & Fs. The list includes two from IRM: E5A 9911 Nebraska Zepher & F7A 411 C&NW. First why would IRM send its' museum piec...

I'm curious mostly to see how West Virginia service "pays for itself"--it is one of a handful of unusual rail services that "free ride" on another service (or, more charitably, "work synergistically and without subsidy"). The other being how New Hampshire towns "f...

Does anyone know if the Lackawanna lowered the maximum track superelevation on curves since the days of railroad-operated long distance passenger trains? Many railroads did to better match the operation of freight trains after the passenger trains were gone. I think FRA may have also lowered the max...
